Hey enjoy it, its launch night, you won't get another for 5-6 years, well 7-8 as Sony are saying. It's always nice to get the latest high tech gear when it comes out. Its just Sony have messed me around over the years. The PS3 is a long term investment, for the punter that is.

Passed the line to smyths a moment ago on my way home from 300

Personnally I dislike the idea of lining up for a console for a midnight launch. So I couldnt help but give a little chuckle as I passed them. Which only came louder as my friend explained to his girlfriend what they were waiting for and her response....'why?' which got a few hurt looks.

Most of the crowd seemed to be 20 somethings, I saw one women who I assume is some poor mother getting one for her husband/son. And I saw a few teenagers who gave a me a horrible look when I decided that this was the perfect time to pass on some of the news I had read over the last few days about exclusives (i.e the devil may cry 4 announcement, and the final fantasy 13 rumour.)

I felt bad about that so threw in a 'MGS4 will be awesome' comment at the end.

Decided to avoid the line on henry street in case trolling got the better of me.

Really really wanted to ask how many people were buying for Ebay.

saw the queue at game on dawson street tonight at about 9 o clock.

there was a measly two people.

for the midnight launch of the wii there were 4 peopls queuing at 8:30am when i was walking to college, and about 20 people come 19:00pm when i was leaving town again.

there seems to be enough supply to meet demand for launch, so i dont understand why people are bothering their arses queing. especially on a thursday night.

Well I've played a bit of motorstorm after registering online and installing the update, it's mental, going to try resistance now. Bought Marvel: Ultimate ALliance and a second controller too. Smyths have some pretty good deals. 699 gets you the console plus 2 of the Sony games like resistance, motorstorm etc, and two 5 euro vouchers which I used with my second controller and ultimate alliance. The manager in Smyths said it was the biggest pre-order they've ever had. There was about 50 or so people in the Q

Just got mine in Cork about an hour ago. I didn't pre-order or anything either. Just walked in and asked if they had any spare. He said they had loads.

Big enough crowd there, though. Must've been a good 60 or 70 people there.

That is how you make the ps3 worth buying on launch day.

At the London launch everyone who bought a PS3 also received a free 46-inch HD television and a taxi home.

you could have financed the console by selling the hd tv. Or if you have the money keep them both!

Im heading to the US in May and will be picking mine up there. A friend who works in the games industry over stateside has said the kinks have been ironed out of the US one already.Well most of them anyway. Cheaper also And is it true the Blu-ray on the European one will run on software and not extra hardware. The US one has a double head to read discs and apparently the European one doesn't. Trying to find link to article and Pics.

just back from work actually. was poor compared to the amount for the wii launch which was great fun. Ray Shah was doin dj in the shop and there was tv crew in as well but it couldnt have been worth it compared to what they could have done for the wii launch.

still it is a bit pricy to be waitin out at midnight for. Most will be there tomorrow id say

Well four hours in and I'm already on my second PS3, the first one made a horrible grinding noise and ground to a halt when I put the disc in...

Oh well you have to laugh. I'd already made one walk of shame when I bought it to the ridicule of my friends, and broke the till whilst buying it, we figure the till wasn't meant to handle numbers that big. Luckily it was a 24 hr tesco(who have tons of them it must be said, here in Dundee) so easy enough to get it replaced. Been enjoying F1 so far, will pick up some other games in a proper game shop tomorrow.

Well I'm finally hitting the hay, online Resistance is far too addictive, Motorstorm is frickin' great, haven't had a chance to play Marvel: Ultimate Resistance yet, think I need to be more awake for it.

oh man..... i don't want to buy a PS3, i don't need to buy a ps3, but i know if i go into a shop and see one there is a good chance i'll be walking out €800 lighter... god damn it! will have to avoid all the gameshops for a while!

Fair play and good luck to anyone that bought one, while not everyone has been pleased by the price or the marketing, screw it. You got what you wanted and thats all that matters!

At the moment the games are region free but movies ain't. Have to make sure your TV can display NTSC signals too, but most TVs these days too. My last tv is a seven year old Panasonic widescreen CRT tv and that displayed 'em fine.

Personally I only didnt buy it because of the money, but to anyone who did, congrats and enjoy. Me, I will be a 360 before I will be a PS3 owner, but I will be a ps3 owner.
