Can the PS3 be hooked up to a 19 inch widescreen PC monitor (1440 x 900 resolution)?

I in the same situation as you, 19 pc monitor which I use for the 360. However i have spent time looking around, but its doesnt seem to be able to use it with the ps3. Im assuming its a vga monitor. I think a dvi monitor might work, but you need a hdmi-dvi converter

HDMI -DVI adapters don't work unless your monitor supports HDCP, which is rare.

    It's WXGA, with DVI-D input.

they will work you will just loose the ability to do 1080p, 720p and 1080i are still possible , also you will loose the ability to transfer audio, is have a cable i picked up in petes for my ps3, hdmi on one end dvi on the other so dont need to tag on a convertor. running quite happily on 1080i

Actually if you just have bog standard pc speakers like most people, use the phono av conector that came with your ps3 and buy a stereo phono to 3mm jack plug (couple of yo-yo's) and that will allow you to just plug the sound directly into your speakers.

Remember with PS3 you have to tell it which audio output you are using - unlike the 360 which will allow spdif optical and stereo AV out at the same time, the ps3 only supports 1 audio output at a time, and you must manually choose it.
