Cannot connect to the internet wirelessly but if i connect the laptop to the actual modem the internet works fine. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or what could be wrong?

Put the modem in bridge mode. Then configure router to handle DHCP, DNS, PPPoE etc.

OK but if i try to set up PPPOE on my router it looks for a username and password??NTL dont give you one so does it matter what I put in here?

Actually my modem doesnt say anything about seting it up as a bridge,i have dhcp turnd of on the modem and al the other stuff turned on on the wireless router.....

If you are with NTL then you don't use PPPoE. Just set the linksys to Auto configuration.

its a belkin... Are you even reading his posts ?

@ OP If its any consolation, i have the same router and modem as you. And im having terrible trouble getting wireless stable.

There is no new firmware for it at all. Same with the modem. Im using standard belkin cat 5e between the two.

Best think i could find to work was connect via mac addy. Then move the ips into the DMZ.

Ugh, reading too many router/modem threads and getting confused about which one I'm replying too. Old age...

Anyway, advice still stands, set the belkin router to dynamic/auto config setting.

Are you sure the cable modem ethernet port is connected to the Internet/WAN port on the router - it won't work if you plug it into the other ethernet ports?

You shouldn't have to do anything regarding configuration on the cable modem - I dont think you should have switched off DHCP on it. It is probably needed to set the NTL assigned IP adddress on the router. Providing you haven't changed any settings on the router regarding the WAN/Internet connection, it should just pick up the connection details from the modem automatically by DHCP.

If you've been making changes on the router and modem, I suggest you reset these back to the default settings, make sure the cables are in the right place, and reboot everything in sequence, starting with the modem. Wait until everything is up and synchronised on the modem before booting the router. Don't try to get the wireless working until you have got a successful wired internet connection through the router.
