exactly, if all of the world tells you to do one thing, it's still up to you to make the final decision.

So the blame falls squarely on the individuals in each situation

Both the man and the woman. Then again from a purely practical standpoint, if I was a woman I wouldn't be relying on anyone else but myself as I'll be the one bearing most of the physical, mental, social and life consequences.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I agree that it is a collective responsibility but at the end of the day if you think you are mature enough to have sex (in most cases people aren't) you should be at an age that you are aware of the dangers of unprotected sex. At this stage the schools/parents/TV/friends should have educated them into the facts about unprotected sex.

Therefore, it is nobodys responsibilities but the 2 people involved

It comes down to the two people who are having the unprotected sex. Nothing else.

While on the topic, those ads that are popping up all over colleges and medical centres lately with the HE SAY's....[something to the tone of "i don't need a condom"]...YOU SAY "You do!"....

These annoy me when i see them. It's not only us men that run around trying to convince helpless women into having unprotected sex. Bit sexist if you ask me. But correct me if i'm wrong, there may be other versions of the ad around with the male victim! ;)

Sexual health matter in this country have all ways been societal. political and religious.

We Still do not have comprehensive sexual health eduaction inthis country.

Condoms only became legal with out a perscription in 1991 adn then they are for those who were over the age of 18.

Here educate yourself on the history of contraceptives in Ireland and how long it took for them and leaflets for sex education to become legal.

This is true from our past, but not for the 2 last decades, more information is freely available and no longer censored. It still does not excuse others for not educating the teenagers, and for teenagers not to know. Sex is a curious subject for them.

Over 90% o fpimary schools and over 60% of secondary schools are patronaged by the catholica church and on land owned by the church and it is against church law to permit teachings which are contray to chruch law; ie sex before marriage and the use of contraception.

Sex education was given in my school (and yes the church did have a say), but there was a big No No of contraception and sex before marriage in religion class. So we rebelled against the church and protected ourselves while satisfy our needs. There were some who did bareback and ran into babies problems. They still suffering the conquences today, both male and female.

HIV and AIDS was big news at that time been spread by unprotected sex. Word was spreading that the use of Condoms is the solution to stop the spreading of HIV. Today I know that there is many more STDs’ been around for some time.

While some people think this thread is stupid because it is obvious to them who is to blame. Yet, so many people escape responsibility and blame others.

There's a chemist on Talbot st that give you a discount on condom's to the tune of what the VAT would be or just buy online
There was a thread a good while on condom's that listed a few Irish sites and they were cheap
They are expensive ****er's alright but necessary
Also with the rise in unplanned pregnancy, teenage mothers and STI's should there not be a move to strike VAT form condoms
It's bloody stupid! Also more free one's to be given out I have family in England with a cousin who's my age and she get's like 6 month's supply a few time's a year

If I compare the price to raise a child and then compare that to the price to a condom.
Somehow I think raising a child is cheaper
and less painful on the pocket. Hey I sure there are people out there who prefer the feeling of bareback AND LOUD CRYING children, who will PESTER you for the rest of your life, because you did not want them in the first place. Remember it is always your choice not to wear a condom or wear some cheapy because the correct ones were too expensive for you. My point is think before you act and do not blame the child for your actions.
If you believe the condoms are toooooo expensive, then LOBBY the TD when they look for your VOTE. There is an election coming up this summer, and they want their JOBS back. If you do not have a VOTE because you are too young, just remind them that their jobs are up for renewal in five years or less. They will get the message.;)

For those of you who think I am anti-children. I am not against having children. I have changed a lot of puck smelly nappies :o , (not of my own children, babies brothers, babies cousins, babies neighbors, and friends children). I change my first nappy when I was twelve, I could not stand the smell going around for the day, so I change it. I have brilliant craic with them, and they love having me around as I talk to them as much as i do with their parents and they know I will listen to them about their problems and help them in finding a solution for it.
Still look for that brillant woman to enter my life, so far most of them are married.

I forgot to mentioned about STDs. Catch one and you screw with your health. Some are easy to treat and others are not.
HIV and AIDS is for life, unless scientist are able to find a treatment to cure it.
There are various STDs that will sterile you too. ie no more babies. That is sad for those in the future who wants children of their own DNA.

There are so many more STDs that will screw you more than that one quicky.

hold on, we are talking about unprotected sex her, and how is reponsible for it.

are you saying that if we lobby th government, we can hand back responsibility to those 2 people that are engaged in the activity?

i really dont see any of you points, or any reason for your threads to be honest.

you started this crap debate, now enter somthinguseful to it other than the price of condoms and the price of kids. neither are relevant factors in who is reponsible for unprotected sex, they are by products.

The idea was for me is to talk/debate about each problem/excuse that people come up with and find solutions to them, instead of blaming others and making excuses.
You know that in the end of the day, it is you self is responsible for your unprotected sex, but others do not agree with that. Instead putting the blames on others (ie their sexual partner, parents, school etc), when they get them selves into trouble. When you are finish with sex and your partner walks away (without a care in the world about you, which is a regular occurrences with one night stands) leaving you with a mess, to deal with.

There is a huge price (beyond money) for not taking on responsibility for your actions, which is resulting in unwanted pregnancies and unwanted STD's, which is the point of this thread. There is still a lot of educating to be done, as seen by comments here. I am disappointed with you that you do not see this, instead of sharing the blame, between both partners. People feel comfortable in sharing blame, but taking it on their own shoulders only, is hard for them. It takes a lot of growing up to take on responsibility.
And yes I did not specify an option “me myself, the one is having unprotected sex” I want to see if anyone suggested this. So far no one did, only mentioned “both partners” are responsible.

    only if you are masturbating.
if there are two people invovled, then they are both reponsibly, if even only for themselves.

im also wary of people who put in 'trick' options so they can come up with some sort of bright response and then claim that no one else has thought of it.
if you want to have a iscussion on something, why would you bother 'hiding' a suggestion. bizarre.

    .
Did not pass the charter criteria, see quote from Humanities charter.
Now, Humanities was created for the purpose of having rational, thoughtful, calm debate about issues. It was created as an alternative to After Hours. A place for intellectual discourse.
This (unprotected sex) issue drives people get passionate, irrational about and the intellectual bits goes out the window when talking about or having sex. After all it is our animal drive that drives us to have sex. If they (other posters) break these criteria’s set in the Humanities charter, they then run the risks and let themselves open to get banned. I do not want them banned from expressing their views.

This is the only forum I found which allows the irrational people to have a say too. I know it is pushing the line, but I wanted everybody to express their views about this difficult subject.

Also Sex & Sexuality forum is not available.
    The http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=567
if there are two people invovled, then they are both reponsibly, if even only for themselves.
    .
It can only take One to say we need to be protected or else to say NO, especially when you find yourself with an irresponsible partner. Why risk yourself?
im also wary of people who put in 'trick' options so they can come up with some sort of bright response and then claim that no one else has thought of it.

It was not a trick on my part. I wanted to see what people say about it and give their own suggestions and opinions. It was a way to see if others people actually though about other options, without prompting them. By prompting them with certain missing suggestions can infulence, dirvert or cloud their into a certain thoughts, which narrows their thinking. Some have surprise me.

Also you need to talk about consequences so people can take on the responsibility for themselves
