Most satisfying moment in a building project

I went round to see the house last night. It is being completely renovated and extended and because the inside walls were old and shaky they tore them all down. We've spent months and months figuring out the best way to reconfigure the inside, we must have gone through hundreds of variations and permutations in the last year. Finally we decided and drew out one that we liked, with a nice big landing, lots of storage space and a walk-in wardrobe (my treat).

So I went round last night with my torch, went upstairs, and... THERE IT IS! Wall frameworks up, EXACTLY LIKE IN THE PICTURE!

This was definitely the high point so far. What was yours?

Sacking the plasterer who had managed to plaster two rooms in three weeks:D

Each stage has it's own satisfaction element but completing internal walls and seing your ideas and plans come to fruition it certainly up there with the best. Switching on the lights for the first time was probably it for me. There is always more to do so not much time to adimre the work;)

Best of luck with the rest of the project

Our new build looks frustatingly like a house from the outside, its fully plastered in a white render but the inside is and has been a building site for the last 3 months, Sick of looking at block walls, plumbing, miles of cable and insulation. Can't wait for the internal plastering to be done, its scheduled to start on the 16th April Hallaluia, roll on the 16th April. To see the plastered walls hiding all that ..... can't wait.

Ironically, my most satisfying moment was when my engineer told me in front of the builder that my house was hazardous to live in. I totally enjoyed seeing the smug grin wiped off my builder's face when my Engineer told him that the roof was structurally unsound, the plasterwork a mess, the floor levels a joke and that I had a watertight case if and when it went to court.

The builder has now agreed to do full remediation under strict supervision at his own cost, including paying for the Engineer's fees.

This work will delay our occupation of the house again, but it was (almost) worth it to see that arrogant, bullying eejit get his comeuppance.:D :D:D
