The Western Digital MyBook range are reasonably priced, 320GB for €110.01 or 500GB for €155.01. They have some smaller also.

    As Ruu said ... :)

get the 320 gb ...go the few extra quid you're actually getting around 298gbs of diskspace

Alternatively depending on your use of it you could get a hard disk that will play to telly ... similar to the ibood offer on here ... not as cheap but it had LAN access as well as USB

Edit: had read <250gb in your post ... the old eye sight is going

    Do not buy the mybook.
Yea I'm sure alot of ye guys that have one think they are great. So did I when it was working. 3 weeks after I got it, it stopped working.
Wasnt a logical error either so would cost a fortune to get fixed. I lost everything

If you google it I'm not the only person it happened too. Was quite common.
The problem was a flaw in production afaik. It was only with one particular model apparently but I still couldnt trust them again.

    I LOST EVERYTHING!!!

    I rest my case.

Same happened to a guy I work with, bought it, lasted about a month. WD did replace the drive for him but he lost everything.

As for that Maxtor friend of mine bought one similar to that recently, seems grand but a lot of stuff wont pick it up, like my Xbox for example.

I've had friends have bad experiences with the WD drives ... Freecom drives ... Maxtor drives and so on ...

Personally I've had 4 drives internal ... die on me in the last year and a half ... as a result I won't touch them anymore ...

know of 2 external drives running for a long time now 1 maxtor ... 1 WD ... they are both grand and get heavy duty usage ... just remember to "backup" your "backup" at least the 2 - 5 gbs of stuff you really need ... 2 DVD's should handle that every few weeks for personal stuff

PC World have a Maxtor 320GB disk for 119... I have bought 3 of them in recent weeks for myself and friends. No problems at all.

Is that on a flyer or something? The website only shows as far ahead as Sunday 25th...

If it's the same Medion HDDrive 2 Go that I got last time around for €119.99, then that's a nice little price drop. Nice little drive, too — much more compact than the WD, and never a day's trouble so far (touch wood!). Three-year warranty is a bonus.

I've one of these as well, it's more basic than the MyBook but works fine. I got mine for €99 on sale at PC World.

You could go the DIY route, with this: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=307913 and this: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=318609 for €115 (€70+€33+€12 delivery) and you've the advantage of been able to replace the hard drive with another when it's full.

Attach it to this: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=317554 for an affordable and handy network storage solution.

    Hi
I am looking for an external hard disk, would pref it to be portable, so a 2.5" disk that will run off the bus. And about 160 GIG

I was looking at Western Digital Passport II 160GB for 130.

Is there anywhere else out there where I may get one cheaper?
