Now that we are through to the Super 8's, indulge me in a little dreaming.....

It would be nice to think we can keep beating the big boys, but in reality it aint gonna happen. So hows about this for a situation that sees us through to the semi's.....

    Kenya beat England to qualify
Sri Lanka beat India and Bang see off Bermuda for Bangladesh to qualify.
Ireland on the crest of a wave turn over The Windies on Friday

Ireland begin the Super 8's with 2 points

Ireland beat Kenya and Bangladesh during the Super 8's
In our final game we face Sri Lanka who are already through to the semi's, they field a below strength team and we bat them.

Ireland with 8 points make the Semi Finals!!!!

    Well we can all dream.......

RTE seem full sure that we're set for a tie with England, and they haven't been wrong about this world cup at any stage... oh, except when they decided that it wasn't worthwhile to show it!!

I'd be happy with a win over the auld enemy :)

If Kenya beat England on Sat. Then England are out.

In you scenario, Kev, they might be looking for a postponement of the Friends Provident (old C&G) match against Gloucestershire, which occurs on the Sunday after the Super 8's finish, 4 days after that match in fact!

Haha, is that right. LOL we really would have messed up the cricketing fixtures then!

The ICC must be praying that India beat Sri Lanka and qualify for the Super 8's. A disaster for them if India and Pakistan (and their viewing millions) were gone before the tournament got really going.

Ireland play 6 games and play everyone except the Windies as they've already played them in the prelims.

The schedule for the Super 8s was predetermined and is as follows - Ireland has taken Pakistan's position as D1:

    30 D1 v C2 ODI Providence Stadium, Guyana 15:30 - Kenya/England
    3 D1 v A2 ODI Providence Stadium, Guyana 15:30 - South Africa
    9 D1 v C1 ODI Providence Stadium, Guyana 15:30 - New Zealand
    13 A1 v D1 ODI Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados 15:30 - Australia
    15 B2 v D1 ODI Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados 15:30 - India/Bangladesh
    18 D1 v B1 ODI National Cricket Stadium, St George`s, Grenada 15:30 - Sri Lanka

the friends provident game has already been postponed, think they're now looking at a date in late may perhaps just after the icc intercontinental final against canada or just before. was speaking to dave langford-smith last night and the lads are definitely up for the west indies game, and aren't going into the super 8's just to make up the numbers they plan on keeping up the intensity for all the games.

Nothing will boost cricket in this country like a game against England. How can they be West Brits if they are playing against the Brits??

If we should win, then it will rank up along with the greatest sporting stories of all time. Like the Miracle on Ice or something.

    Joyce for a duck!

By the way lets not be too harsh on RTE. Sky have the rights and it would take up a huge amount of RTE Sports budget to cover the tournament. Spending money on a minority sport like cricket would have been a huge waste.
