    whats the point of clicking the button to activate quick reply, why not just have it available from get go

    It's kind of a stupidty filter, but more of a technology stupidity filter.

    The quick reply box uses AJAX to post the reply to the server. This requires Javascript to be enabled in the browser for it to work.

    Not coincidentally, the button to activate the Quick Reply also requires Javascript to be active at the browser. So if someone doesn't have Javascript, they can't even activate the Quick Reply, let alone attempt to post one, so this means that there are no threads on Feedback going "Waah waah, why doesn't quick reply work?".

    If you can prove conclusively that the extra click required to post a quick reply adds significantly to the wear on your mouse, I'll personally replace it.

    Actually I agree with the OP on this, but it's a vBulletin decision, not a boards.ie one.
