Work social events/nights out?

I've been asked by a friend what I thought would be good fun for office nights out. She has to organise a few. I had the usual answers - pub, club etc. She wasn't impressed with my imagination :)

Her company is quite big. You'd think they'd have done stuff before but they seem fairly quiet (Too many accountants maybe ;) ) There's a good mix on the gender and youth front.

Anyway, anyone got any ideas or been to anything good where they work?

A few people I was talking to suggested dog races, horse racing, cinema, paintball, bowling. I think these are good but there's surely some more original ones?

A casino/race night are the popular ones at the moment. As someone who's been working in hotels for a few years, I can safely say that everyone usually seems to enjoy them (although the drinks vouchers always help with that). I just hope I never go to one though because I know the results of all the races at this stage!

Had a Casino night recently in work. About 40 people. Booked out a restaurant for a dinner first, then casino after (blackjack and roulette). Great craic, no one taking it too seriously, wide spread cheating from both sides of the table.

Random spot prizes such as who had the most green chips at 10pm etc.

Can't remember the casino event company, think they were called Monte Carlo? Well organised though.

That sounds like a good night. Food, drink and gambling. Good idea.
All that is missing is some strippers :)

We have a Sports & Social club in work, they are really good at organising nights out to gigs espically at Vicar Street.

However recently they have organised a Wine Tasting Night which alot of people are interested in going to.

If you dont have any imagination and are quite lazy I would go for Shelbourne Park Dog night. Food is quite good and the betting and dogs make it always a good night . Plus you dont really need to do any work bar collect the ticket prices. Its also quite inclusive as you will find if you go for paintball, pitch putt, go karting etc alot of people wont go and come up with lots of excuses.

I have found the numbers to drop when doing any of those events. Although the Casino nights our always great craic , do a pain to organize . Also go with some of the smaller tux companies not the BIG one as the smaller ones provide very good rates and will come to the office for fittings etc and drop them of to be collect at your office.

And from the people from whom you'd least expect it!

Casino was great fun, adding a monetary element to the night (even if it was only dud chips) bought out an interesting streak in people.

Our company had a paintballing day, it turned very competitive and in one of the games we had to rescue a hostage, lets just say "the dont shoot someone from2 foot away rule" was thrown out the window!!

But after a few beers later on it was a good laugh

We (both sides) shot the hostage on our last outing. It was our BOSS. He wanted us to freely express our feeling, so he got the message. :D
