More fun with the JLS SCAR

JLS's SCAR is simply epic! Every day is a new adventure with this rifle. You all remember how I had to pull the motor to get the thing running right? Well I thought that I'd had my glitch for this clone... Wrong! Last week I was Practicing reloading my mid caps when I noticed the mag release button was starting to come away, any M4 users will be familiar with the locking bar that lifts on the opposite side of the lower receiver when you press the mag release. The bar started to twist and lock open over the receiver so I reset it and went about tightening the screw that holds the whole lot together. Three turns of the screw and the screw head snaps off  The thing was made of pot metal but to come away so easily it must have had a stress fracture in it already.

So hear I am with a rifle that can't load mags. I headed into town to try and find a replacement. Being that this screw was tiny I knew I'd have a hard time getting something like it. I ended up trying in most of the hardware stores around the city and got the same reply from each one "Sorry, don't have anything like that. Wouldn't know where you'd get one" So I'm milling around in ever increasing circles until I hit Maplin. After scouring the shelves I find a large box of assorted bolts, washers and nuts. 10 Euro, a bit pricey for a replacement but they did seem like small electrical types so I picked them up. Fortunately one of them fit and the mag release is working again, I also have plenty of spares for any other Airsoft needs :D

The JLS SCAR has a rather cack outer barrel so I ordered a Classic Army silencer from UNcompany, the JLS has a +14mm thread but the CA silencer can go on pos or neg so that was fine. The silencer arrived today along with 30000 .25's I ordered, it was sent by TNT and I clearly told them to use EMS, if the order had of had a rifle in it they would have sent it back whence it came, disappointing  I proceeded to put the silencer on to find that the SCAR was going to continue the fun. A large chunk of metal on the sight block prevented it from going on. So there I am mumbling to myself and going at the sight block with a hacksaw :p Silencer is now on but I tend to wonder what surprise the SCAR has i store for me next, I haven't even used it in a skirmish yet

UNCompany use TNT boxes for all their shipping. Are you sure it was TNT that handled it?

Sorry to here you've got more problems with the SCAR. Either you or that gun is cursed...maybe both.

Hmm, you might be right about the TNT thing, I didn't collect it at the door, my brother did so I'll have to ask him. I think it's about the level with all the JLS SCAR's, a pity since there are so many good clones at the moment, JG, CYMA, etc.

Is that a typo or are you just extremely trigger happy:D

Actually last time at HRTA I only fired about 600 shots all day. It's for my bro too and since he's got an S-mag for his G36C he's gonna need them :D

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the SCAR-L use M4/16 mags and I think I saw somewhere that you can use C-mags on M4/M16s as well as the G36s??

So you could use C-mags with the SCAR-L??

I know you can get a mag well adaptor for the G36 so it will accept M4/M16 mags, I don't know if there is one that works other way round as the '36 mags are bigger the M4/16 ones.

You can indeed use M4/M16 mags in the G series with an adapter. Doesn't work the other way around, as you say, the G mags are too big.

You could have a monthly slot of "Fiach And The Jinxed Scar" :p
You do need to be the hands on type to buy some of these clones. My CYMA 031(AK74) had it's first problem ( it was more of a quality control issue) this week, the trigger bar that connects the 2 sides to make it fire got stuck in and was on fullauto all the time, needed to disconnect the battery to stop it. A pin that holds the metal bar had disappeared, Had to cut up a needle to put in it.

All fixed now so im still pleased with it.

Remind me to never buy clones....not worth the hassle.

no problems with my cyma clone, very pleased with it and it's very well built.
just installed a new precision barrel in it there last night, if you've no problem going ahead and taking the thing apart if/when anything goes wrong, then clones are grand.
its a great way to learn how they work and how to upgrade them anyway

I wouldn't mind one for disassembling. Get the feel of the mechanisms. But that's about It really. I'd say more, but I'll just end up getting into an arguement with Scope...as usual :D

To be fair to some of the clones CR, I can't see these kind of problems popping up with some of them. We have 2 JG G36C's and the build quality is very strong. I hear the JG AUG's are just as good. I've also heard many reports of CYMA 028's outlasting TM AK47's. Some clone company's are below par alright, JLS and BE are two I can mention.

Fr all the trouble you are having with your JLS SCAR it might not be so bad if you consider that the CA SCAR is selling for €530.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

Yeah I'd planed on getting the CA SCAR now that I know they're doing them in black. Although I might hold off for the Star version and get the SCAR-H.

    €530?! Ouch!

I'm sure I've seen the CA SCAR going for less then that, around the $450 mark. I'll have to look around.
