The best way to see Venice is to just walk around it and get lost in the alleyways. Obviously the Doge's palace is worth checking out and a trip up the Campanile. The water buses are quite expensive to use, 5 euro a trip, so if you plan on using them buy a day pass for 12 euro. Saturday mornings are good at the Rialto, the fruit and fish markets are amazing. What ever you do take a Traghetto across the grand canal. These are gondolas that take you across the canal when there are no bridges. At 50 cent a go it's the best and cheapest way to have a trip in a gondola. They are mainly used by Venitans, in fact they're probably Venice's best kept secret. You'll see the green signs for them.

well im back from venice and back to work :( venice was really nice and quaint. lovely little streets and the accomadation we booked was a 30 second walk to st marcos sqaure. it was only a B&B but did the job perfectly.

was a little on a high after the second day things a little hazy as my boyfriend (now finance) popped the question. was on cloud 9 for the rest of the trip.

defo recommend venice (not just cos i got engaged) but it is a lovely city so differnet than other places. not as expensive as i thought either. although you can find very expensive places but they are avoidable
