well the cost of the moped depends on wat make of moped u get, id recommend a gilera runner myself. used to own one, class moped. as for shops to buy them, i wouldnt buy one from <snip>.

S-mod edit: We can't go naming shops as "dodgey" for legal reasons.

Check out Francis St, They now moved out to Cherry Orchard Inustrial Estate. They usually have a selection of scooters etc some with warrenties and some needing slight repairs. I wouldnt touch anything without some kind of come back. http://www.cityspares.ie/

em not really sure about insurance mate, when i got mine about 4 years ago it was 1200 but im sure its more than that now! as for the price of a second hand one, between 900 - 1500 euro. bikeworld out near the longmile road would be the best place to buy one

For the insurance you are best to contact Aon Bike Care - they will be the only ones that will insure you afaik, not bad to deal with either.

You could spend €600 on a moped but if it lasts you a year you are doing great.

I have always bought 2nd hand you should get one for 800/900 always bought from buy and sell. Unlike a car does not cost a fortune to fix any probs. Suzuki Katana always found a good bike and would stay away from Aprillas. Insurance could be very pricey!!

I had a Honda X8R-S and I loved it, was nippy enough. I would just get a decent cheap one because you'll probably get bored of it soon and want something bigger.

Nothing wrong just found them really slow, I am as much interested in Speed off the mark so I can get through gaps etc, find the ones I can always beat are Neos (really slow), ovettos, Peugeots, apprillas.:D

The fast ones seem to be Gilleras and Aeroxs ;)

For insurance, you also can try Quinn Direct who only started offering insurance since Feb 2007. I've read some posts elsewhere from other ppl who are getting very competitive quotes.

Carole Nash have been best for me for a couple of years, but I'll be phoning/emailing Quinn when the time comes...

    Two words: No. No.

Hibernian gave quotes online in ye olde days, but nothing doing now.
A 17 yo looking for insurance is going to be paying top dollar.

If you want an idea of prices, go to your local bike shop, ask them for a quote. Lots of them have an insurance price list from AON which is grouped by area (Dublin is most expensive), by bike power/weight, by age and licence type.
Be prepared for a shock. Insurance quote could be more than the bike is worth

you should take some lessons. Aon offer you cheaper insurance if you complete a safety course

if ur only 17 living in dublin you are goin to be nailed on insurance! Aon will proably charge you €2100. But there is a way around it, you can insurance the bike outside of dublin. e.g. Meath etc.
That way you will only pay about 1200. Its much cheaper to insure a bike outside dublin.;)

By lying on your insurance form and using another address. Really stupid idea because you'll have paid a lot of money for insurance that'll probably be worthless in a claim.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.
