Four is confirmed, don't think five has been yet (will probably depend on four).

And as far as I know, season four will be shorter (13 episodes) than we've had so far.

I think Sci fi have commissioned 13 episodes, but that number will probably increse to 20 - 23, depending on how season 3 is recieved.

I think it's standard practice for a company to order an initial number of episodes and renew the number as the popularity is gauged.

This is welcome news to me. I thought 13 was a bit short, though like a lot of others, I see the potential benefits of a short season, I just love the BSG. Keep it coming, thank you.

    It's been increased to 20. \o/

:( If the extra seven episodes are going to be like the last seven in season 3 then they should keep them. I'd much rather see 13 good episodes than 13 good and 7 sh*t filler ones.

Don't get me wrong, I love BSG and would like to see more and more episodes, but the crappy filler ones do nothing for the series as a whole and only end up spoiling your enjoyment of it.

Hopefully the makers will take note of the viewers unhappiness and we'll get a decent run from the whole 4th season.

In latest interviews with Moore he implied it's in the final act so very likely only 4 th season of which their are 22 episodes in that season planned.

He has said that it could go further which reading between the lines I would say one more season bringing it to 5 before it would stop.

He said he would like to see it go out strong rather than prolong it over more episodes so I think 4 will be the last season what with what happened at the end of season 3.

I agree. 4 seasons would wrap it up nicely. Think of the shows that would have remained unspoiled if thay had stopped at 4 seasons and not jumped the shark:

    Happy Days
Buffy (should have stopped at season 3, actually)
Angel (season 4, but it was downhill after season 1)
    Charmed (season 0)
    Andromeda (season -1,000)
SG-1 (season 8, but to be fair, 9 and 10 were suprisingly good)
    ER (god, let it die!)

I think 5 seasons is good myself. I think it represents a good meeting point between "don't stop!" and "don't get crap!"

4 seasons making it 5 parts, when including the miniseries. Each one pretty much being an Act in a very long screenplay

I may be repeating myself, but what do people think of the idea of wrapping it up with a second mini series, once all the character development and story arcs are tidied up, 3 hours of good ol' fashioned space combat and explosions. I mean, not just 5 minutes of fighting, then 20 minutes of "let's get to Ragnar Anchorage and refuel and waste some screen time", I mean literally, one massive, unbroken combaat sequence, a la Black Hawk Down or Return of the King etc. Kill a good few people off too. Maybe even destroy the Galactica!

Black hawk down was just too much IMO. I like the idea of a miniseries to finish alright.

I rate the miniseries as a film, and it fits in my top 5 of all time, possibly top 3.

I should say that I had bought the old series box set and was dutifully watching it (and enjoying it) so I was already in a battlestar frame of mind when I was absolutely blown away by the miniseries.

Did you watch the miniseries before season 1?

it was good and dark: not in my top 5 though. maybe in 10. I watched the miniseries on the assumption it was a once off and enjoyed it though.

I thought the first half of the mini-series was brilliant for the most part (the scenes with Roslin were a bit too slow for my liking), but the second part wasn't quite as good. Adama getting trapped with Leoben was a very contrived plot device and was too 'Star Trekky'. Still great scifi though.

TBH its staying as good as it always was its an amazing show and the stuff they did this season was equally amazing to the first 2 seaons and the miniseries

    Yes

Actually its defiantly in my top 10, I think the reason i love BSG so much is you get more of a feeling of comeraderaty with the crew.
In Star trek which i love and have been watching since i was 5 (16 years+) its good but its not BSG,
BSG just has the feel to it and my single fav line in miniseries was
*Cylon radier launched 3 nukes, Kara destryos 2*
Adama: *looks at Saul* Brace For Contact My Friend
Saul: I Havent heard that in a while

the miniseries is too long for me to watch as a film, so i usually watch it in two parts, so its good whenever its on TV.

i find it most enjoyable to watch straight and then watch 33 right after because those 2 together make a great story

Myself and my wife did this the first time we watched it iirc. Absolutely amazing follow on. Really keeps the sense of desperation and hopelessness there. Brilliant.
