Hey folks, im going back to NYC for the first time since 7 Sept 2001 (just missed 9/11 thank god)

Anyway have flights booked and we're staying in the Affina (spent hours on trip advisor this has the best price/rating combo).

We will definately be going back to woodbury commons, def goto central park and zoo and will def goto ground zero, madame tussauds (spelling sorry).

We're looking for some other must do's. Might goto 6 flags. Also thinking of a show and/or a sports event.

Can anyone recommend a show for non theatre goers? or anything else we simply must do?

    cheers

ps we're going from 18 to 25 april

You should try the Bronx Zoo rather than central park zoo - its far bigger and has a lot more animals. For $14 it is a bargain. I spent all day there last month. I think its actually free on Wednesdays (but you're expected to donate if you go in for free).

Times Square is always worth a visit.

You could try going to the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) observatory for a good view of the city. It is less crowded than the Empire State Building one generally is.

One thing you really should do is buy a 7 day unlimited use subway/bus ticket (Metrocard) for $24. It is excellent value. You can go anywhere the subway goes - no zone restrictions like on the London Underground.

If you want a good look at the Statue of Liberty for free, the Staten Island Ferry is worth the half hour trip from South Ferry, just beside ground zero. If you want to take decent pictures of it you will need a camera with a long lens though.

For clothes shopping try Century 21 beside the WTC site.

When I was in NYC last month with a few friends, we went on a tour of Sopranos filming locations in New Jersey, which is well worth it if you're a fan of the show. The same people do a sex and the city tour of NYC also. http://www.sceneontv.com/tour.php/sopranos/

If I think of anything else i'll add it here :)

Hey, I stayed in the Affinia, its a great hotel. Rooms are large and for the most part very nice. The location is superb, right across the street from Penn station and MSG and about a 5 min. walk to Times Square.

I would definitely recommend taking in a Yankees game, I think the season should start soon. Its a real New York experience.

You should definitely do Six flags, I loved. I've been to most of the big theme parks in the world and six flags holds its own. If you like rollercoasters, you will love six flags. Plus, with the dates you have specified, the kids will still be in school so lines for rides and that should be smaller.

I'm heading back over to NYC myself for the summer and something which I plan to do this time and didn't do last time is try and get tickets for a tv show taping, i.e Conan, Letterman, a sitcom etc. I think if you apply in advance tickets are free and it is supposed to be great craic.

Times Square is also pretty sweet, but I guess everyone who goes to NYC will see it.

I was there just a few weeks ago and if your looking to see a show I would strongly recommend a musical called "The Drowsy Chaperone". It's a hilarious show and I loved every minute of it. Catchy songs too. It won all the Tony Awards in 2006 and is on in the Marquis Marriot right in the middle of Times Square. Best show I've seen and I've seen a few on Broadway and the West End in my time.

If Spamalot is still on it's your only man!

It was still on last month anyway. Didn't go myself but it was being heavily advertised on buses and subways.
