I believe the Aldi are selling motorcycle gear on thursday. I thaught I would start a brand new thread as the Lidl thread is getting a bit stretched and full of criticism. Ive decided to keep my mouth shut this time and let you go out there and get your bargains!!!http://ireland.aldi.com/special_buys/index.html

All I'll say is get the tank bag..seriously good value for money, priced a not dissimilar one in Halfords for over 100euro more after I got mine

    What time do they open?
I've never been to Aldi or Lidl on the morning of a special.

I've checked the website and it states 9am.
Do they open earlier on days they have special sales? I was hoping for 8am

You would be ok with the bike gear, it tends to stay around a few days after. Some times the specials can be crazy, ie a few years ago on old fella died in a stampeed in an Lidl in Athlone to get a Sat dish. Stuff like laptops, Gps's and certain computer parts dissapear almost immediatly on the morning of the special. Usually when theres stuff like the above on offer its just to get the crowd into the shop and it is subsidised. Its a scam in the marketing trade known as "loss leaders".

Lidl doesn't do loss leaders. They make a profit on every item sold. They have immense buying power, the sat dish for example....an average of say 40 units per store times 6,000 stores = 240,000 units at even say €50 to Lidl works out at app. 12 million quid per order. That's a large order for a manufacturer and they jump at them. People don't realise just how many stores Lidl operate!

Maybe not loss leader but not far off, they shure know how to attract a gang at the door on the morning of a good special. That incident in Athlone there was only 10 sat dishes in stock.

Not necessarily. All the tank bags were gone from the two Lidls stores I dropped into on the morning of their bike specials, by 9.10am. It was like being at the bike show again really, crowds of bikers were taking advantage of the good deals on offer. So if there is something particularly you want, I'd get there early.

I think I'll pop by the Aldi on Santry Avenue on my way to work in the morning. This tank bag looks mighty fine to me for under €30 EUR! :D

Do all Aldi's stock these special offers in every store? Or just specially selected stores only?

Would agree with you better safe than sorry, I know in Ennis the first time the tank bags came out they moved that day, they came out again a few months later and didnt shift as quick, the lids the same, one smart guy who had a bike shop (gone now) managed to get a few lids and move them again in his shop!. There was a few lids left in the Noggin branch when I was there after the last offer, these had their packaging removed.

I got my tank bag! :D:D:D

Delighted with it! Feels really sturdy, I'm impressed!

I can't find the information plate/tag on the bag though... Was just wondering how long the manufacturer's warranty was...

I got it in the Santry Avenue Aldi and there was about 20 or so left.

I dropped into the Long Mile branch on way to work. Couldn't see any tank bags at all there funnily enough but they had lots of clothes, bike boots and some locks. The boots were for 39 euros and have all the ankle protectors etc you'd expect so picked up a pair - seem really good value and they even had a size 12!! Big crowd there again, had a bit of a laugh with one or two other bikers fumbling through the various bits and bobs there.
