routing email through gmail

a friend of mine is wondering how he can re route all of the mail he receives on his eircom.net account into his gmail account as he is getting a lot of spam into the eircom account. as far as i know its something to do with pop3, but i dont know what else to do, if anyone could help i would be grateful, thanks, gar
