I want to bring my car over to the UK for a few weeks, but am getting quoted over 160euro for one way with the ferry from Dun Loaire to holyhead. Are there any cheaper options?

Thats a bit of a rip off i think, and its the slow ferry.

If you search for discount codes stena line on google - it comes up with some links for AA, AXA and IFA etc. I got a 12.5 % discount doing it that way. When are you travelling - I got one week return on the fast ferry Sat- Friday for €320 but that was in May so sounds about right your quote.

That's not a bad price imo. And it's the HSS that runs from Dun Laoghaire (the fast ferry), did you check the price of the Stena Adventurer (slow one) out of Dublin Port?

I have heard of people paying over £500 return for a journey on one their smaller fast boats - they told me that because I parked them in the worst place on the car deck :)

If you are really worried about the cost, you could take the slow slow slow boat from dublin to birkenhead/liverpool. It is about 8 hours but they do offer a full lunch in the onboard restaurant.

They charge about 85 euro one way.

That would really be a false economy - 8 hours on the boat and you would spend a fortune. The its a longer drive to london from iverpool than holyhead and with the price of petrol these days . . . .

But you didnt say anything about london, you just asked for a cheaper option to the uk.....
