    Rightyo

So there I was standin in the queue for the cash register at the servo, got some petrol ansd I picked up 2 1.25L bottles of coke for $5, one in each hand,

and as I'm standin there I kept gettin this urge to swing the two bottles out in front of me and clap them onto the head of the person in front of me in the queue.

didnt know the guy, never met him, didnt even see his face.

took a lot for me to convince myself not to do it.

anyone else get strange thoughts like these fairly regularly?????

So, is it just me orWha??? 51 votes

Sounds like you were just testing your "common sense" reflexes (if such a thing exists).

You passed as you didn't clatter him!

I sometimes get the urge to do something really stupid (not very often & never follow up on it), but I think it's just your mind clearing out the rubbish!

Random thoughts are the sign of a creative mind. (edit: or madness.... but I dont think so)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Mahatma coat

I'm not talkin about the urge to do stupid things per Se more the urge to do things which you know are, well, EVIL, its not uncommon for me, and thats the problem, say yer workin on a buildin site as an example, yer tippin along the scaffoldin minde yer own business and all of a sudden you see........hang on I'll come up with something.....right.... a pointy piece of steel, and you look at it and you think.

    a) that might hurt someone down bellow I better tidy it up and flag that as a potential danger to others.

    or

    b) COOL, I wonder if I can get it to stick in someones head when I kick it off this 20M drop.

well, which is the more common thought in the majority of the population???

With that example "a" , for certain. Mind you if there was a something like a lunchbox down below, I may have a fleeting thought of scoring a bullseye on it :D

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Mahatma coat

OK see the issue is that A) is the option that comes later in my head, I see it and instantly its B) as my course of action.

The real issue is, do you believe that you would ever "cross the line" (between just thinking about and doing something about it) and act upon these urges, eg. pick up the piece of steel and consider dropping it to injure someone below! but then stop before following through.

Sometimes, just sometimes, when an old granny is walking, really slowly, in front of me, and there is no room for me to walk around her, I often imagine what it would be life to just push her over, or to maybe just give her a swift kick up the arse.

Some times when i'm talking to my boss, who I get on with, or generally anybody at work, I get the urge to just punch them in the face.... Even when they're being nice to me :/

Once I gave in to my nutter urges. I was walking up Henry St, and the place was jammers. It was pissing raining and there was a gang of Spanish students in front of me.
No matter what way I moved I just couldn't get by them, so I kinda tipped my brolly forward and gave it a good shake. :D
The rain splashed all over some Spanish girl and ran down her neck, and she started to scream hysterically, I swear to God, you would have thought she had been shot.
However, on the plus side, she did get out of my way and enabled me to go about my business.

God, I really wish we had an evil smiley face right now :D

Get them every now and again. I visualise myself punching the person in front of me in the back of my head and beating them to a pulp. Then after, I always think how scary it would have been if I had actually done it. I think the urge is less of an urge, and more of a visualisation that seems very realistic to you.

I get this. Also, sometimes I get the urge to kiss someone if their head gets to close to mine....

people who pay for things like the newspaper in a shop by writing a cheque
    grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I often think of whether to stab them in the eye with a pen or through the ear,
you see you have to think of the satisfaction vs. messy angle, still 50/50 :D

HAhahaaa that made me crack up laughing.

everytime Im in a cinema or show and a tall hippo headed fecker sits in front of me, I want to decapitate them. Once I realised Alfred Hitchcock harboured the same fantasies, I felt we were a kindred spirit.

    Phew...I'm not alone! :D

I sometimes get the urge to karate kick someone in head for no apparent reason. Or shout out loud on the bus for a laugh, just to see people's reaction. It's actually quite amusing when I get a picture in my head of beating someone up :o

well, which is the more common thought in the majority of the population???

Always....don't believe I could or would ever act on the impulses.
There's no harm in thinking about it.

The problem lies with a small number of people who get option B into their head first and act upon it before the social norm (option A) ever enters their mind...

[edit] lol got my As and Bs mixed up. Seems I'm mildly dyslexic...better than being mildly psychotic I spose...

It is normal for me at least.

Unless you actually act on it its not Psychotic behaviour.

From what I can see, psychotic behaviour is the inability to control exactly these kinds of impulses. It's part of "civilised society". It's actually more natural to let these things out, but it's socially unacceptable to kill someone.

The fact that we've had to control these impulses the whole way through our lives is a recent change (since violent combat in wars became obsolete, especially in Ireland), so we probably haven't evolved past them. Personally, I often get the urge to shout really loud in public or to headbut someone without warning. It gets worse when I'm waiting for something because I'm very very impatient.

i am not to fond of water i.e sea and river, before anyone gets smart but everytime i walk over O'Connell bridge, i get this urge to jump up on the bridge and just jump in, i get the same urge walking near the sea. this urge is so strong, it really scares me and i really have to hold myself back :-)

    Your not Physcotic!,your just repressed
you should try and give in to these, its great fun(maybe not concussing someone with coke bottles tho),
but shout on the bus,or if someones rude to you..punch them in their face
im trying to give in to these at the moment its not easy, but its so liberating!!

Punch people in their rude faces!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭Sm0ke

I'd love to shout that out in my office, the reaction would be priceless.

A lot of impulses I get would be things I couldn't physically do (i.e karate kick someone in the head) I'm not physically fit to do something like that. But I would be physically able to shout something like
    FANNY !

When i was younger i wanted to take a bite out of people's cheeks to see what they tasted like. One day while walking to work , i was walking over patricks bridge in cork and i had a bag in my hand with my uniform in it, i got the sudden urge to just fcuk it into the lee...i really wanted to, not because i didnt want to go to work, i actually like my job..i just wanted to see what
would happen. Anyway, i didnt do it.

I know exactly what you mean, I was actually talking about it recently.

For instance, if I see somebody bent down, tying their shoes, I have this urge to either push them over or kick them in the head with the sole of my foot.

I also get this amazing desire to steal sometimes and I really feel I have to control myself to not do it.

I'm a perfectly normal member of society though. Honest!

yeah i suppose its alright.. well at my worst stage i thought i was gonna
    1)steal things off them
    2)stab them
and this was almost everyone i came into contact with
i had alot more inappropriate thoughts than this but i would not feel comfortable talking about them
i will however tell you that people with this sort of OCD usualy have thoughts that they are either
    1)gonna steal things
    2)gonna hurt people
3)gonna act on a very unusual sexual impulse
    and
    4) (for people who are religious) have thoughts that they are going to worship satan or omething along those lines... to be honet im not quite sure about that one
    hoever THEY NEVER DO

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Mahatma coat

Hah kickin people in the arse when they're tying their shoelaces, thats one of those ones that I just cant resist :D

however you raise an interestin point re the stealin, I could well be described as a habitual petty criminal, my 'moral compass' is far less troubled by things like that, where no other individual is activley injured, I rarely find a need to even justify it to myself.

as for unusual sexual impulses, the only unusual thing would be if I had a sexual impulse

No. Psychotic behaviour is far more complicated than that. Have a read up on psychosis and then you might have a better idea. Though, most people who use the word don't have the slightest clue of what the word actually means and what it entails for people who actually do suffer from psychosis. Actually, this entire thread is a perfect example of this.

OCD/OCBD would seem to be something that was made up a few years ago to describe this kinda thing, and it soes encompass all the behaviour listed, I'm just massivley relieved that I'm not the only one walkin around on a hairtrigger.

I must keep a note of any strange sexual urges I have cos thats not something I'd noticed, that said I'm inta Doggin and the like so strange is subjective ;)

OOOOOH and pointin out peoples faults, ah come on now even IF I did promise to never physicaly harm another human being, you couldnt take away that emotional dagger aswell, its just so much fun to demean and belittle people till they run crying from the room, leaving you with that warm fuzzy smug selfsatisfied feeling, its refershing and at least I didnt stab them in the eye wit a texterpen.
