thinking of buying an airsoft pistol off viper airsoft the problem is its velocity and whether i could use it at HRTA, can anything be done for an airsoft pistol that fires at 340 ft per second? or would i need to bother? afterall thats only 12ft per second faster than they're limit would they really care?

    which pistol is it?

odds are that itll fire at a bit less than the advertised fps, quite often ive seen the same airsoft on different sites with different fps advertised on each one

The high fps can only be got using HCF 22 gas. Use HCF 134a gas and you should not get over 300fps. Also try using heavier BBs like .25gs.

You'll also have to remember that only the first few bbs in a gas gun fire to the guns maximum potential. After that, the power gradually reduces.

Captain Chaos, using heavier bbs may lower the fps. But they will not lower the energy. The 1j law is measured at 328fps with a .2g bb. With a heavier bb the fps of 1j would be lower. There is a table posted up that enables you to work it out.

I know the formulas, its just he was talking about fps, he didnt mention the 1j rule.

Mass, kentic transfare of energy etc.

Ah, I skipped over the HRTA part.

Well, he seemed to be asking if it would be shooting too hard to use in HRTA. I was just pointing out that using heavier bbs, although it will drop the fps, won't in any way alter the shooting power.

Both my guns fire 10-15 fps below what they should fire at according to the box/manual. I wouldn't worry about it.

And with the mentioned power reduction as the gas is used up, there is even less to worry about.

You're biggest issue will be reloading, unless you buy a few extra mags.

If you can afford it, an AEG (assault rifles, rifles eftc) would be a better first-buy if you are are new to airsoft.

Pistols are actually a lot harder to use in a skirmish then you'd think. As Crazyrabbit said, if you're new then an AEG would be a much better idea.

Then again, maybe you've been airsofting for 10 years. In that case, i apologize :D

Thats only something I'll be able to compare once the 36C gets here.

Still for a skirmish, I only have a 226 with one mag and a 36C with 1 hi-cap and 10 real caps by mid week. Should have got some TM mid-caps instead.

The 226 is my last ditch defence, like the scene at the end of Saving Private Ryan, firing a 1911 at a Tiger tank.

I really need to check out the whole skirmish/HRTA side of things. Need to get proper gear first though.

Ordinarily I'd stick with my rifle, too.
But since you're only allowed single shots inside HRTA you're actually better off with the sidearm instead. It's easier to use in the close quarters inside the HRTA game-zone and you can get a higher rate of fire from it than single-shooting your rifle.

actualy, this has been changed. short bursts as sujested back at the begining is now okay. opening up will get a telling off and a kicking if its done to me but short bursts are fine.

its more realistic in my opinion to expect of people. plus its better for an aeg gearbox and motor then single shot is

That's great news about short bursts. I was starting to get worried about my gearbox.

doesnt help that the single shot on my mp5 is broken... 2/3 shot bursts are much better anyway.

Single or short bursts are ok, still perfer using my deagle to my p90 anyway

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

there was no oint continuing with single shot as it wasnt being stuck to by everyone anyway.

it was very annoying having an AEG with a huge ROF and not being able to use it. Even just to hear the sound...

Spitfire shouldnt be allowed use bursts, the last i was at hrta he used one that fired about 20 or 30 :D

Anyhow you will be fine on 134a gas if it does shoot at 340 on green, my deagle shoots at 325 on green, but 280 on 134a

added to the fact that your spring will bed down after a few 100 rounds and loose roughly 10/20 fps you'll be fine

thats great folks thanks a mil. LOL finding out that its going to lose power like that is both good and bad news.
its a kj works m9 IA that viper airsoft has for €119 that im buying. i think for airsoft cqb a pistol is as good as any as stopping power and range are not an issue, the benefit of its small size and blowback make it my choice, though im ordering 2 spare mags with it and i made need extra ones too so i can keep up hehe

Get a cheap pistol shaped speedloader, they can be invaluable if you dont have to many mags ;) and just plain usefull in anycase

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

i'm looking at getting a pair of 1911's and getting 4 extra mags. so that i'll have 3 for each one. they'll be for cqb only realy.

Have you got a pic of the m9?
    Is it abs or metal?
