okay so just want to rant and be reassured and hopefully noone will take the chance to be mean just for the hell of it.

i had the implant put in my arm thursday. so since then i've had sex using a condom. this morning i used a durex pleasure maxi- dot version. it was my first time using this type, usually its the extra safe or the thin ones. anyway, during sex my bf and i were switching positions, we realised there was a rip at the side and his penis was poking out. he hadnt come and i am 3 days after my period ended, friday night.

i called the family planning clinic, closed today, walked to A&E, they wouldnt even see me as they dont give it out >:( so i got the number for west doc. west doc gave me the nuigalway student emergency service and they rang out!!! went to the pharmacy, they were nice and gave me the number of a gp but before i rang him west doc called back with another number i could ring.

this is the annoying bit that really pissed me off. he was talking to me telling me to come up to his clinic (by foot i dont drive) so he could talk to me in person, then walk all the way back to the pharmacy to get the perscribion. i told him how it was raining and couldnt he just put it through and i'l call up to him after or discuss it over the phone. he wouldnt understand where i was coming from until i said how its more effective the faster you take it.

then he hadnt a clue about if its safe to take considering im on the implant. he was literally asking ME questions about its use and affects. he asked if i was on other meds and i happen to be on mood enhancers called affex but he suddenly got sheepish going "oh this is too embarassing a conversion to have over the phone, why are you on those?!? they're for ppl with depression!"

at this point i got really upset since the doctor i have who gave me those mood enhancers said they werent for depression and suddenly i feel judged by this phone doctor and outraged my other doctor could lie to me. my bf took over the phone and this doctor was narky to him too but he put the perscribion through and the pharmacy women were lovely and knew a hell of a lot more then this doctor.

anyway, all in all, i tool it 1hr after the condom split, maybe 1hr and 15 mins to be safe. considering im on the implant 5 days, and just finished my period AND my bf didnt come, am i safe enough? i know theres no definates, but how reassured can i be?

    oh and im 19

I would suggest that you talk to your gp as soon as possible.

i've already tried. anyone got info on the implant being how effective after so many days? i know this isnt a medical forum but im hopig someone has experience. plus im wondering if a doctor can sugarcoat a medical term like it appears to have happened with my "mood enhancers"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implanon

If you had the implanon insterted while you were having your period then
due t hoaving had your persio there should be no ova there for any stray sperm to implant and the artifical horromoans which are released into you body via the implanon should stop ovualtion from occuring during the 3 years of it's lifetime in your body.

It is extremely unlikely you would have gotten pregant, exposure to STI is another question.
The emergecny conratceptive contains a large does of the horromoans which are in your implanon.
The combination may stall your next period if you get one at all as not having periods can be sone of the side effects of the implant.

If you worried in 4 to 5 weeks time take a pregnancy test.

If you are unhappy with the information given to you by your dr then make a complaint to him and to the local health board.

Personally I would alway look up as much information about any perscription drug that my dr would wish for me to take inorder to make the most informed decsion I can bout what I put in my body.

There are so many health violations here its incredible.
this is the annoying bit that really pissed me off. he was talking to me telling me to come up to his clinic (by foot i dont drive) so he could talk to me in person, then walk all the way back to the pharmacy to get the perscribion.

It is illegal for doctors to give you prescriptions without seeing you.
i told him how it was raining and couldnt he just put it through and i'l call up to him after or discuss it over the phone. he wouldnt understand where i was coming from until i said how its more effective the faster you take it. .

Im sure he could see where you are coming from, but he has to preserve his medical license and considering people travel for miles when they are ill to see a doctor, I doubt that he would risk his medical license for your convenience, when you are not ill.
then he hadnt a clue about if its safe to take considering im on the implant. he was literally asking ME questions about its use and affects. he asked if i was on other meds and i happen to be on mood enhancers called affex but he suddenly got sheepish going "oh this is too embarassing a conversion to have over the phone, why are you on those?!? they're for ppl with depression!".

Well surprise suprise a GP who doesnt know anything. Believe me get used to it.
at this point i got really upset since the doctor i have who gave me those mood enhancers said they werent for depression and suddenly i feel judged by this phone doctor and outraged my other doctor could lie to me. !".

Anti depressants are mood enganhancers. Dont you think your screwing with your body a little too much between hormonal implants and drugs that will reconfigure your brain chemistry. Wouldnt it be simpler to get some excersie and use a condom?
my bf took over the phone and this doctor was narky to him too but he put the perscribion through and the pharmacy women were lovely and knew a hell of a lot more then this doctor.!".

Why did your bf take over when its your body, your health and your responsibility. Due to patient confidentiality it is illegal for health officials to discuss your health with anyone but you.

It extremely unlikely you are pregnant.

Many things may seem easier to you but they are not always for another person.

What the hell do you know about it. Back off pal with your arm chair opinions on medication.

May be her body and her health, but it's not solely her respnsibility. Also it wouldn't come under patient confidentiality if A) she allowed it, and B) he only discussing information already in the public domain, such as side effects of the MAP.

You should be ok pregnancy wise which was your original question.

If you are not reassured why dont you make an appt with the place that put your implant in.

I understand you were in a panic but as pointed out no self respecting doctor or family planning clinic for that matter will really give out a prescription over the phone particularly and moreso if you are not their patient. Walking in the rain is not ideal but measure that up to an obviously distressing alternative of an unwanted pregnancy and the rain pales in comparison.

Regarding your mood enhancers, i google every tablet i take before it goes in my mouth but really it should have been explained to you thoroughly by the person that prescribed it but despite not knowing what mood enhancers are the obvious guess is that you were feeling down and they enhance/lift your mood therefore being somewhere on a par with anti-depressants??

Um as for someone suggesting you use condoms, well you are practising safe sex (which is responsible and cannot be knocked, its amazing how many girls dont) and your choice of contraception is entirely up to you.

This girl could be with her boyfriend a long time we dont know that and its not our place to judge. Millions are on the pill, depo, coil etc.

It is well known that hormonal medications such as birth control can adversily affect mood. The combination of anti-depressants and hormonal implants seems like a heavy cocktail. That combined with the additional hormonal surges of the MAP would cause any responsible medic not to rush into doling out an addition to the cocktail of meds OP is already on.

It absolutely is her body and it does break confidentiality for those practioners to discuss anything having to do with her body with her boyfriend or anyone other than her and it would be irresponsible of them to discuss her health with him.

Strange that the A&E wouldnt help you. Its unlikely that your pregnant, however this is not a medical forum so I suggest go talk to a GP. Different medicenes can affect the effectiveness of the pill etc

Only if what was being discussed was specific to her.

    and you're not a doctor.
