    Drive safe guys.
An alert has been issued to motorists following a deterioration in road conditions.

Motorists have been urged to drive with extreme care because of icy roads particularly in the border counties, the south-east, midlands and north west.

Roads in Northern Ireland are described as treacherous.

Many motorways, national routes and roads on high ground are very slippery with several reports of black ice.

Several minor accidents have been reported this morning.

Counties Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Monaghan and Donegal are worst affected.

The N1 Dundalk to Newry road in Co Louth is very slippery and snow is heavy in Co Cavan.

Drivers in north Donegal are being advised only to travel if it is necessary, particularly on higher ground.

Gardaí have cleared an earlier crash from the M1 southbound about 2kms north of the Julianstown exit.

Gardaí in Co Kildare say some roads appear to be refreezing despite being gritted.

Some ferry sailings have been cancelled and intending passengers are being asked to check sailings before leaving home.
