Flying to Prague

I've just been checking out flights to Prague for a long weekend and they are working out at €300 return from Dublin.

I can see a couple of people in our group having a problem with these prices. Where is the most convenient "alternative" airport for Prague?

    Thanks :)

Some of the Czechs that work with us take a cheaper flight into Bratislava in Slovakia and then bus it from there. The bus journey from there is about 6 hours though I think so you might want to pay the extra and fly direct to Prague! Have you checked both Aer Lingus and Czech Airlines?

    Thanks SteM.

I checked it on ebookers.ie which agregates the best prices from most of the major airlines.

    6 hours? Don't fancy that!

Try the Czech Airlines website directly you can get great bargains on it sometimes.

agree about czech airlines direct. ebookers quoted me a fare to mauritius with airfrance about 30 quid more than was available direct through airfrance

You should also check Hungarian Airlines as they fly from Dublin to Prague on a regular basis.

I avoid ebookers because they will add their own fee onto any flight that you book with them.

Not necessarily. I have previously bought aer-lingus flights on ebookers and they worked out cheaper than aerlingus.com

It's just another option when your booking flights I suppose, but don't automatically assume that it'll always be dearer/cheaper

One other point is to check the prices daily with Aerlingus and Czech Air as Aerlingus tend to reduce them nearer the time. My sister lives in Prague and I was looking in early Sept for flights for half term at the end of October - was working out very dear - then the price dropped beginning of October so got them for €39 plus taxes each way. Always worth seeing if you can flex your dates to make use of the cheaper fares. It does seem to be one of the more popular routes so fares do seem to be high most of the time.

Where are you going with €300!!! Aerlingus charge no more than €20 each way not inc taxes. I've never paid more than €90 return to Prague.

I challenge you to find return flights to Prague on Aer Lingus for less than €200

They can, and do, charge a lot more than €20 on occasions.

Check out the below wikipedia link for Pragues international airport. It details every airline that fly there and where they fly from. This gives you a huge amount of connecting flight options which may allow you to get lucky with the laws of supply and demand. For example, you could fly Ryanair Dublin to Leeds Bradford and then Jet2 Leeds Bradford to Prague.

(Most people only think of going through a major airport for connecting flights blinding them to the fact that there may be better value for money going through a smaller regional airport)

A bit of work involed and you will have to pay taxes twice, but you might get lucky with cheaper flights.

    Hope this helps

The problem with this is that you can't check bags through (so you have to pick them up, exit the arrivals are and re-check them in with the second airline at depatures, clear security again) and no fallback if your flight is late, or the airline makes schedule changes - the second airline is under no obligation to do a thing for you.

Generally something I'd recommend against, unless you're really strapped for options.

If you are looking for an alternative airport, try jet2.com from Belfast.
