    Hi,

Anyone got or know of a classic estate car for sale? I'm not fussy about make or model - it just needs a nice big tailgate, half decent sized boot, be reasonably solid and mechanically ok. Budget around 1000 euro give or take. There seems to be loads in the UK for the money but I'm short of time at the moment.

    Thanks

    A couple on here:
    a '78 Vauxhall VX 2300 Auto for €1,250 and a way overpriced 131 Mirifiori Panorama for €4,250.
Also has a Datsun Cherry and a BMW 3.0 Si and some other interesting stuff

Thanks for the info - think you forgot to post the link but its:

for anyone else who's interested. The Vauxhall is roughly what I'm looking for, though I'd prefer if it was a '77 or earlier. Might just give them a bell though.

The Mirafiori looks interesting too but as you said way overpriced.

that VX is very cheap...expect it to be in poor condition......might just be a bargian though.....and 2008 will soon come round...

in a few weeks I might ahve a 76 cortina estate for sale...it's being restored in the UK at the moment and i have too many cars to keep it (unles I love the result after it comes out of the bodyshop) wont be anywhere near as cheap as that VX though

Thanks Blue850 - I've phoned several times over the last week, left messages etc but can't get talking to the owner so I've given up on that one - starting to feel like a stalker  . Car sounded good though so its a pity - would have gone nicely with my Amazon.

Thanks also, Corktina - the budget is tight so I have to stay in that price range, unfortunately.

That'd be perfect - I really like the Mk1. I should have thought of getting a car like this last year when I actually had the time to travel over to check one out.

Thanks for the link anyway though.

Mercedes W123 T if you can find one.

You won't get a 30 year old one for another two years, but they are a good car if you can find a decent one. I have one, but it's not for sale (not for a grand at least).

It looks good - I wish I'd the time to go over and have a look. If its as nice as it looks I'd be happy to buy it.

That volvo estate is great! Was there a saloon version of it?

    I have a 71 reliant scimitar , it's a project but nothing major is missing and as it's a fibreglass body it's not rotten.Yours for €250!
It ran when I bought it but I've robbed a valve rocker for my daily driver (a 72 scimitar). It's in Kilcock.

There was indeed - the 144 and 142 (4 and 2 door respectively) - the one in the picture is a 145. The front was extended and changed slightly to become the 164 (6 cylinder). It grew up to become the 240 series eventually.

Shagman - thanks - PM sent.

sweet, i think i'm going to have to get one eventually.... i'm imagining a 740 or 340 turbo engine in a 2 door version...
    anyway, that's for anoher day

You can easily get up to 150 bhp on the standard engine in that car with a few mods. The reliability will be unaffected as the drivetrain is overengineered. The only weak part on that particular car as far as upgrades are concerned is the non-Volvo auto transmission. There's a crowd in Sweden called KG Trimning who sell everything for Volvo performance upgrades. You could build a real subtle racer...

The I64 was produced at the same time as the I44 but with a large engine and a different front. I saw one or two of them here in the last few years on original Irish regs. In Sweden there was a one-off estate but was not produced and a van version of the I44 with only 2 front doors. There was also a I43, a saloon with 3 doors, one on the passenger and two on the driver side but it was again only a prototype.

Ever considered a MK2 granada estate? They come up from time to time and are great yokes for long journeys, especially a 2.8i auto

Thanks Blue850 - I'll chase that one up - I've got a saloon version already - an estate would be a nice match...

AsphaltRisin' - I'd consider anything, as long as it was half decent structurally and old enough. I've a couple of leads now with the two Volvos and the Scimitar offered above - I'll keep an eye out for a Granada though - they look easy enough to maintain and parts should be handy enough too...
