There was a good thread on this a few months back (or possible longer). The short version of the thread is: good pay for little experience but you work damn hard for that money. Sounded alright if you were the kind of person who didn't mind working hard and putting in the hours.

There are 3 jobs that are advertised the top job which is area manager, the one below that which is store manager and the one below that assistant store manager, I would have no problem puting in the hours or working hard but it doesnt specify if you need experience or a management qualification for the area managment job, I have absolutely no retail exp so Im not sure which should apply I apply for?

They were touring the colleges earlier this year and I feel they do a lot of advertising for what actually are very few positions. Area manager which is the most appealing has 1-2 openings a year.

One person I'm aware of who got an Area manager position last year had an Arts undergrad. + Management HDip.

Usual story about a lot of hard work and definitely not the place to go if you are looking for international experience.

They also seem to be looking a lot more for aptitude and abilities (a very serious multiple stage interview process) than a 1H or whatever.

I don't have a figure but given the number of stores Aldi are opening, I'm sure.
Still I'd give the area mananger and store manager a short first.

I had a crack at this a few weeks ago.

I have a Psychology degree and I will soon have a Masters in Food Business. I have little or no management experience.

I applied for the Area Manager position. I believe Aldi hires 6-10 per year. I was called for a Group Interview with 6 other people. I thought I did great but I got a PFO two days later, so that was that. The other candidates were no stars. I felt I was the best there, so maybe none of us were chosen.

Had I been successful, the next step would've been an individual interview with the MD, followed by a further panel interview.

I was disappointed not to get further. I was impressed with the set up at Aldi HQ in Naas. I got good vibes from the people there.

A friend of mine was hired last year as a trainee Area Manager. She has a degree and a PhD in Physics. I haven't spoken to her much since she started, but I know she had to do 6 weeks training before starting for real.
