I'm driving route 66 in Sept, don't know what bike yet either Harley Road King or a ST 1300 ........ i drive a CBR1000 so will probably go for the ST. Probably more comfortable 2 up anyway. Taking 16 days to do it, anywan out there done it could give some tips, and i don't mean money !

Thanx .......... i'm used to clip ons, you know, lie down go faster! i'm a small bit worried about the handling of the ST with the sit up position.Have you ridden 2 up ? Is the pillion comfortable? I'm not worried about luggage as i will buy as i go ( clothes will be disposable ) I will be averaging about 200 mls a day, no problem for me but a wee bit concerned about the old doll on the back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing I will say is you wont have a problem with handling. The sit up position is more comfortable for long trips. One bit of advice I will give you, a lot of people find the seat uncomfortable after an hour or two. What to do is as the seat is adjustable, put the rear part of the seat one position lower than you have the front. When you take the seat off and look, this will make sense to you. It makes a big difference to me.
With two up, the rear shock preload is adjustable, so just put the preload up high (dont tell the missus, cos she will give out thinkin you are tryin to tell her somthin.. mine does.) My missus tells me its very comfy, much nicer than any other she has been on. Though she does like to have the top box to lean back on.
The adjustable screen is great, if you put it all the way up, there is NO wind noise. This is nice for a break every now and then, but personally i like the air so leave it down a bit. Also it looks crap when up all the way :)

Personally Id stick to Jap, pick up trucks are alott more common over there so you probably would get away with the Road King.
