I want to clear out my Gmail inbox, especially the large attachments.

Any tips on the best way of doing this? I can't find an option to arrange emails or attachments by size.

Log in, open the 'All Mail' view.

At the top of the screen, click 'Create a Filter'. Tick 'Has attachment' and enter any other criteria you want. Now click 'Next step'. You may then select all by clicking the 'All' hyperlink in the orange border around this selection. Now delete to your heart's content.

Out of curiousity, how much of your space are you using? I'm using 11 MB [0%]!

Yeah, that's the only way I can find, but I have "hundreds" of emails with attachments. Some of them are important.

My Gmail says: "You are currently using 1433 MB (50%) of your 2829 MB."

I'm sure it's just a few emails with very big attachments taking up most of that space. I can't see any way to figure out which ones, without wading through hundreds of emails with attachments.

No problems for me either. Any time they do have problems it usually only lasts for a short time.

How about building on what I've said. Star the important messages with attachments and create the custom filter as I described earlier. This time, select all unstarred mail by clicking 'unstarred' and delete. This may be a little easier.

Gmail doesnt give you the option of searching by size, and there were no search operators that I found that enabled you to do it, so what i did was i downloaded my entire gmail inbox (yep-all 1600mb!) to my hard drive using outlook, which allows you to arrange your mail by size. Its a bit drastic, and time consuming, especially cos gmail lock you out of your account for improper usage after about 1gb worth of mail, but it was the only way i could get it done.
