Just heard the National Lottery Skyfest - The Biggest in Europe - Has been cancelled due to adverse weather condition making the build up of the event impossible. Its pity i was really looking forward to it....... :(
WOnder if they'll organise another date cos surely it cost a bomb for all the fireworks and stuff! Anyone have more info?

    BREAKING NEWS.ie:

The Saint Patrick's festival 'Skyfest' fireworks display in Dublin city centre tonight has been cancelled.

The organisers have said weather conditions have made it impossible to stage the event, billed as one of the biggest in Europe.

It was due to take place on the River Liffey at the Dublin Docklocks from 6.30pm today.

A spokeswoman said a one-metre swell on the water and wind gusts of up to 60km an hour mean the barges used to set up the fireworks can't be operated.

I heard some fine upstanding pyrotechnics expert is going to put all the gunpowder to good use by putting it in a secret tunnel underneath Leinster House...

Well, if there's no house for the windbags to come back to, maybe they will just stay away?:D

Don't be so sure. They'll have to go somewhere and I don't want them living near me. Imagine a country where TD's actually live in their constituencies! *shudder*

On a serious note the guy on the news reckons it's been cancelled for this year.

Now on more pressing matters; perhaps someone knows where we can get a 2 week delay fuse...

Such a pity, I was looking forward to doing the first aid at Skyfest. Seriously, fuck global warming.

I didn't know that skyfest thing was happening (well, not happening) until this thread.

I don't reckon there's any point in it going ahead at a later date - after all, it is supposed to be a part of the Paddy's day festivities. If it can't go ahead this weekend then there's hardly any point to it. Unless some die hard pyrotyechnologist who wants to send his message to the world......................

I didn't realised that the parade in ew york was actually organised by the AOH (ancient order of hibernians) as opposed to the civic athorities, that why they won't let gays parade openly/festively, I don't if the AOH i just a ordinary irish catholic organisation or one a it stranger org that wants to go back to the 1950's

There's another bank holiday weekend coming up very soon... they should do it then than waste all the fireworks.... they probably cost just as much each year as the Spire cost to build that so many love to complain about.

I was both glad and disappointed it was cancelled, glad because I got to park for work quite easily, disappointed because I would have a great view of it from my office would of made sure i was in it then..

Dont know about the Spire bit but I reckon they should go ahead with it the next chance they can.

How much would that amount of fireworks cost just out of interest?
