WaveHunt is a 'warwalking' competition run on the streets of Dublin. This will be the third year!

Basically, we have a battery-powered Linksys WRT54g, and we give it somebody. They walk around a defined area of the city for an hour, and entrants have to use their laptops/PDAs and signal strength data to work out where the person is, and eventually who they are. There are three games like this in three locations, and the winner is the fastest person over all games.

The three locations we use are usually full of people - Stephen's Green park, Temple Bar, and inside the Stephen's Green shopping centre.

There are prizes of 100 euro, 75 euro, and 50 euro for the fastest three people.

We're meeting at midday in the Dakota bar on South William Street.

Full details are on the competition website: http://wavehunt.redbrick.dcu.ie/

WaveHunt is being sponsored by BitBuzz (internet access for the day), Stephen's Green Shoping Centre (letting us run around inside!) and is being run/funded by RedBrick, the DCU Networking Society.

If anybody has any questions, feel free to email wavehunt (at) redbrick.dcu.ie.

    Thanks!

I hope some cheater uses a spectrum analyser or something similar!

Very constructive. If computer addicts can't manage to get themselves away from their desktops, there's some chance of them getting exercise if chasing an open wireless network :D.

Nah, standard wireless cards only. No external antennas either, have to keep it fair. :)
