Chernobyl here I come (again).

Hi all,

This is my 5th year to help with the chernobyl childrens project while the rest of you play the Irish Open..... I will be visiting children in Belarus and Russia on Easter week. Every year my wife and I bring a child to stay with us from the region for a month or so. This year we will be bringing 14year old Andre from Belarus. He suffers from thyroid problems resulting from exposure in the region.

I consider it my good deed for the year for all the gambling and lies I tell at the poker table.

Each year I fundraise and contribute personally to the project. Last year I ran a successful poker night. This year I'm doing something a bit different. I'm loosing weight....yeah thats right...starving myself..... for the benefit of others (and my health).
I have recieved sponsorship of €1 for every 1lb of weight I loose from quite a few generous people. I'm not really campaining here for sponsorship but if anyone feels like helping out then please PM me and it would be appreciated.

I'll have a scale at the bottom of my posts from now on to keep track of my progress.

2 weeks gone so far and 18lb down and starving...

the 10 stone is a long time goal but I do plan to loose 3 stone by June.....

What was your starting weight? And how tall are you?

I'd recommend buying cartons of soup. You need to diet sensibly.

Have you really lost 18 pounds in two weeks? that's more than a pound a day. You'll kill yourself.

yeah really ... 18lb lost up to last thursday....... well you see I really have it to loose...
I think at my weight I'll kill myself if I don't loose it.
It's hard work. a lot of it is fluid as well.

As regards starting weight and height............. well ok............here goes (bit embarrassed about this one)

Height 6' weight
25st 4lb on 1st of march
24st 0lb on 15th of march

Day goes as follows if anyone is interested.
Breakfast porridge and pint of water
lunch high fibre bread with tuna or chicken and pint of water and 0%Fat yogurt
Dinner portion of meat 2 veg ( no potatos) or salad. Pint of water.
Snacks 3 pieces of fruit.
More water!!! ( about 4 litres a day)

In the morning I go swimming for an hour and in the evening I walk for an hour......

Well folks bad news for those of you who have pledged a few bob. Just had my weigh in this morning and I'm down another 8lb to a total of 26. Couldn't really believe it myself... I expected it to be slowing down a bit now after 3 weeks but WHHHHOOOOOOOO....

Just got confirmation last night that we will have 52 children in this years group, coming here in June for respite and recouperation. ( our clean air and good living ) Fund raising going well for me with this weight loss thing being a great success. At this rate I might loose more than the 3 stone target....

Thanks for all the help and support ( wish the poker was going as well loosing there as well as off my body)

Well done so far, but you are worrying me with the rapid weight loss. When is the finish date of your weight loss programme?

Swimming is a very good exercise for you imo, and enjoyable.

thanks again guys. ..... Kin I'm not too worried about the rapid weight loss although it's a little more than I expected but as I said I have it to loose. I'm expecting it to slow down rapidly soon... Although feeling great.... nearly 2 stone and a bit of exercise does wonders...

What a great week.... poker improved a lot...... loads of excercise......feeling great...... and another 6 lb gone...

thats a total of 32lb in the first month..... delighted with myself..... that little train is moving down the track now!

This time next week I'll be getting ready to fly to Minsk in Belarus...

I only started to read this thread today so I'm coming in when the pounds are going to get tougher to lose.
Please be careful of your heart and take your time.
I'll give you fifty euro when you hit 80 pounds gone. Thats the average weight of some of the weedier kids on here. PM me and we'll arrange the transfer. A pound a day is a lot of weight to lose.
in fact the 50 is assured whatever happens. but i'll be watching that train!

edit: in fact put me down for the full amount from the start. take some pictures too of both yourself and the trip. maybe I can be of some use to your goal for next year.

Prob all getting fed up hearing about my continuing efforts but just a quick update. Back from Belarus anyway. Wasn't as successfull trip as we had planned but nevertheless all the organising is done on that side now and the children are coming here on the 26th of June. We had some transport problems and our interpeter spoke 5 different languages and understood english perfectly ( so she said but I had my doubts) but spoke very little of it!

Anyway not to worry job done..

Just a quick update on the weight... down another 6lb as of this morning which is just over the 3 stone mark which is amazing as I did feck all excercise this week but anyway.... update next week again..

I'm also trying to buy my way in above..... although there is a lot to be said about the other spot too.... warmer/poker/drinking/and the kind of women we like to meet

It will be all over in a month so you shouldn't loose too much more!!!! (going to increase the exercise to 10 hours a day and reduce calorie intake to 5 a day to break the Doc):p

Well the first of June has come...been tough work over the last 3 months... for a guy addicted to food it hasn't been easy.

Many thanks to ocallagh and rasta for their valliant efforts in helping me with a webpage.... Results and pics etc are on www.budabreak.com/macspower have a look

I'll contact everyone that has pledged money over the next few days. Just to say I have lost a lot more then I expected and I'm sure more then anyof you expected. so if anyone want to change their original pledge and just make a small donation it would be very much appreciated... I don't want anyone on here to feel under any pressure in any way ( I know how fickle the poker world can be)...

If anyone wants further proof of losses I have a cert of weight loss carried out by an independent health professional and can send it to anyone that wants it..just PM me.. also when the money is handed over the the CCP I will have a receipt and photos of the cheque presentation..

Glad that bit is over but I'm going to continue with the weight loss programme to get a few more stone shifted...
