Just got the new album Foley room and I have to say its pretty good.
Its different from his other albums in that he didnt sample from old records instead its him sampling real instruments and other things, there is a song called 'kitchen sink' so I suppose he sampled that and made a whole track out of it.
Its what you'd expect from tobin, cinematic and moody but there is also some more upbeat stuff on there aswell that for some reason reminds me of the Gorillaz.
Its probably not his best work to date, but he seems to be goin in a new direction which is good.

Yeah, only listened to this guy recently. He's really inventive. On this album apparently he sampled ants running around inside a tin foil ball, which actually sounds pretty cool...

Great musician, loving his first album at the moment. Found it fairly random that he did the splinter cell soundtrack though. It's pretty good mind you.

He did a mix a couple of years ago for the breezeblock on radio one,If you can get your hands on it, it's definitaly one worth having,If you don't mind doing abit of torrenting I'd check out www.themixingbowl.org,
There are some pretty good mixes from the like of Fourtet and luke Vibert there as well

He's made some great tunes over the years. Supermodified blew my mind. His approach of using outlandish samples for this album reminds me of that of Matmos, who like to intertwine sound and concept - using a typewriter sample on their William S. Burroughs themed track (which also, appropriately enough, has a really unsettling and creepy sound) for example. Tobin, conversely, seems to be purely interested in the aesthetic quality of the sounds - throwing them together in whatever combination sounds the best, without any concern for any overarching theme or structure. Which is cool, there's nothing wrong in making good old-fashioned music, and he does it very well.

I don't really like much of his stuff asides from 'Back from Space' - the one that samples Mussorgskys 'Pictures from an Exhibition' - but very talented dude alright.

Got Foley Room, and am finding it suitably magnificent. Are those flies wings at the start of the second track? Tis weird, but I like it.

Check out www.amontobin.com/field it's an odd promotional site for Foley Room.

Yeah got this album a few months ago and listened once - I remember being somewhat impressed at the time. I then managed to lose it until about 2 weeks ago when I found it again (in the side pocket of my laptop bag  )

I have listened again now several times and it really is an excellent album. Fascinating also to watch the DVD that came with it and see where he got a lot of the sounds.

This gets a big thumbs up from me too :)
