If you are likely to pick the accounting stream in the business degree, then pick accounting. It takes a year less and you have more exemptions when you finish.

Why not just repeat the year of Applied Comp? I know it aint easy, espically Maths - but the college might be able to offer you some help on that.

To answer your question, I think id like to cover the whole of business and then decide what stream to go by - rather then picking accounting and just focusing mainly on that. But, then again, I dont like accounting :P

First off you must be mad doing accounting, lol!
I'm doing the BBS course (year 1) at the moment and it's really enjoyable, some people I know are not really into it, but thats due to them not liking the people in their class.
The BBS is a really good course one of the best business courses in the country, or so we are led to believe. It gives you more choices, should you want a career change in the future or if you find your not really into accounting, you have 2 years to decide, before you choose accounting or not.
Plus, i'm not sure about the BA in Accounting, but BBS has managemengt modules in the accounting stream, so you'll have more choice.

Hope this helps, for any other info on BBS, PM me!

I was actually thinking of doing that.... Just starting again next year... from scratch like....

But then I thought! I just don't think that the course itself is for me. I dunno.... I found the whole thing to be hard. not just the maths... :(

    I think I need a change like....

    I dunno....

    Damn this is confusin!!!

Well if in doubt, leave it out.

Maybe Business is the way. A lot of people have good stuff to say about the course Minto is doing, and if it was me - id probably do the same thing instead of focusing on one area. Always good to have all around knowledge :)

45 people sounds like a lot, but wen your in there, its no different to secondry school and I know I said there is usually 35-40 people in mostly, but thinking about it, its prob more like 30. Even less on a Friday (we get a half day and most of my class miss their mommies so much, they go home on Thursday, lol). If ya need any more info, PM me!

Ah...riteo. In that case they might be a little intimadating I guess, but i'm sure the rest of your class will prob feel somewhat the same, especially those going from secondry school to college.

Having done the BA in Accounting I can definitely recommend it, if your plan is to do accounting. If you're still not sure what stream you want to do, then BBS is not a bad way to go either. However, if you do BBS and then choose the accounting stream, you'd probably regret not doing the BA.

While both courses grant the same amount of exemptions for ACA - up as far as Professional 2 - the accounting stream covers a whole extra year of Financial Accounting and Management Accounting, which will help you sail through the Prof 3 exams that you start with in work. Plus, it takes a year less in college, like bp_me said.

Just out of curiosity, did you do accounting for the LC? Did you find it hard?

Some people don't really have an aptitude for accounting, but if you do, it's a very doable course. And quite rewarding! Job prospects are very good, even for those with lower than exceptional grades.

Also, i'd like to point out the danger of BBS - if you choose a stream other than Accounting or Economics & Finance, you're going to find it slightly more difficult to find a suitable job right out of college, especially if your grades are a 2.2 or less.

I dunno if that info really helps at all, but if you have more questions just fire away.

My apologies. I had vague recolections of being handed lists and told the BA had more exemptions than the BBS. But that was 4 years ago and I had a fair idea that I wouldnt be doing any business courses anyway.

You're right in a way, as far as I recall BA gets more ACCA exemptions than BBS, though I'm not certain as ACCA isn't really my thing. If you work for the big four or any medium to larged sized private practice you're generally more likely to end up sitting ACA/ICAI exams.
