I'm a bright boy, can I fix the intonation on my tele myself?

I've never touched a truss bolt before but have all the tools and my Tele needs to be tuned to each chord the intonation has gone that far off. The neck looks straight as a die. How can I go about this myself? I'd like to learn. Any tips or pointers?

DON'T TOUCH THE TRUSS ROD :)

Intonation is adjusted at the saddles on the bridge - play an open string and check on digital tuner - then play harmonic at 12th and check tuning - after each movement of saddle at bridge on the relevant string retune the open string and play harmonic again until bliss is attained :)

Check the Resources sticky. There's plenty of guides

The only thing i'd say there is that your 12th fret harmonic will always be in tune with your open string, whether the intonation is right or wrong. Its just the way vibrating strings work.

You want to be comparing the open string with the 12th fretted note,

    OR

the 12th fretted note with the 12th fret harmonic.

Both ways have their merits, your guitar wont ever play in tune all over the neck anyway, so its up to yourself which way you do it. The difference will be damn all either way.

keep those single coil pickups low whilst setting up the intonation as the magnets are strong and will affect the tuning.

Great info. Thanks all. And that resources thread is a great help. I'll come back with a report on how it goes.

Do and let us know if it's a 6 saddle bridge or a three saddle bridge. The altter are tough to fix.
