Hi all I've been hearing from different people that the reception can be bad on an internal TV card using analogue input.

In every ones experience is this the case, and if so how bad is it?
I'm on Sky Conway cable so signal strength is ok.

Would the use of a booster be any use at getting the reception better or would an external TV card be a better option?

I'm using a Hauppauge USB TV tuner and the signal is crap, even with a booster.

It's really unwatchable, especially since I use my HTPC with a projector. Now there's one way to get a headache watching TV. :)

I take it you wouldn't recommend one then :D

I use a Hauppauge MCE500 PVR. Reception is fine. Not as good as routing it directly to my TV, but not significantly different. I used to split the signal to another TV though, and the reception to the Media PC was awful... From my experience, you can't split the signal. Degradation seems to get amplified.

    So my experience is fine..

What about the whole external vs internal question? anyone tried both and is there a significant/any difference? The fact that it wouldn't be in as close proximity to the pc power supply etc. Or has that got nothing to do with it

Apartment owners with these restrictive problems maybe could consider one of these:
