Hi, not sure if this is the right forum..but here goes..

My girlfriends birthday is coming up in about 2 months and i want to surprise her with a weekend break to Paris. She's always said she'd love for us to go together so i think it would make as a good surprise? The only problem is her passport is outdated..so my question is how do i get her to re-new it without her being suspicious as to why i'm asking? I think it may take a month to get a new passport..or it may be quicker by swiftpost..still it needs to be done soon..Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

    Cheers in advance...

That's a great idea. Are you planning on going on a sun holiday this year? If so just say to her that she should renew her passport now before the rush comes along closer to the summer.

Does she need a passport. Will a drivers license not do?

If your only going to Paris, you shouldn't need your passport. You can travel within the EU with only your driving licence. Well that's all some airlines require.

Just tell her you want to take her away for her birthday. It will save on all the messing around. You dont have to tell her where. As previuosly mentioned if she has a drivers license this also counts.

Either way, hurry up. I just checked a passport application, sent by regular post, takin about 4 - 5 weeks. Even the Passport Express is delayed.

if you go into the passport office with proof of your flight they can do it for you in a day - be prepared to get her to take a day off work to do this though.

just tell her your taking her somewher and its a surprise becasue she will have to sign it and get her passport pictures taken and all that...you would not be able to do it and you have to have a passport to go there....driving licences are not accepted believe me. if u want it done this fast u have to tell her.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, i think i may have to tell her i'm taking her away somewhere which takes away from the surprise factor..

Just arrive home with two copies of the form, say you're renewing your passport (or, if she knows yours is in date, that of someone in your family) and would she like you to bring her form in while you're at it?

I think you are best off telling her that you are bringing her away but leaving the destination as a surprise. In my opinion this will actually be better as it means there will be a couple of weeks anticipation to the actual pay off. Anticipation can be as good if not better than the actual event itself.

If you definately cant do it yourself, UB's idea is a good one. Just arrive in nonchallantly with 2 forms, say your doing yours and can gets hers too if just signs that bit or whatever.

Even if you did have to tell her you're taking her away, would still be fantastic as she wouldnt know where or when, so surprise factor still there.

Or else you could just take her to London or Edinburgh or someplace in the UK - just a thought.

It might take away from the surprise factor, but it will add to the anticipation factor. ;)

Regular post, 4 to 5 weeks. Passport Express, about 10 days.

For goodness sake tell her! Otherwise she may make arrangements to meet friends the next night or something! Surprises aren't always good surprises.
