Vision has become blurry in my right eye over the last few weeks, i know i need an eye test, just wondering what will i expect to pay? And is there anywhere you would recommend, i.e. I would rather get a good eye test than a cheap eye-test.

    Sorry if its wrong forum!

This isn't a medical forum so advice in that direction would be dubious. TBH if your vision has become blurry in only a few weeks a trip to your GP would be the best. Seems a bit acute. If nothing else he may be able to recommend an optician if it's something he can't deal with.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

no dont go to ur GP!! go to a specific eye doctor! specsavers is 27e for an eye test... can claim back off prsi or med card. all optometrists are fully qualified!! and thorough!

I got one done at Specsavers a few years ago and I think it was around 25 euro. Are you working? I think your PRSI might cover some of it.

    edit: snap Misticles. :)

Just to repeat what the previous two posters have said go to any professional optician and you will get a decent test. I'm a Specsavers customer and I've always found them fine. The Treatment Benefit Scheme allows you to use PRSI contributions to get money back for dental, optical and other types of basic health care. Take a look at the page I linked to see the qualification rules.

Personally I wouldn't go to Specsavers - or if you go there for a test I wouldn't buy your glasses there. The opticians themselves might be fine but the staff are less than attentive. Have seen people come out with glasses that weren't the right prescription because their lenses weren't in stock and the assistant thought the next best thing would do.

Sorry about that. It was only the recent nature of your problem that made me think of a GP. The specsaver route that others have recommended seems to be the best route. I've used them myself. Quite good.

hey!! i am attentive :D and thats a load of codswallop!! if that was done which i suspect is untrue it was because the person was in dire need of spex and needed something to get by!! ie a temporary pair to get by, and the prescription would be maybe half a dioptre out and we do run these things that do occur by the optometrists to make sure it would be ok for the patient!!! we dont go off on wims and decide ourselves!!

I have to say that my family all wear glasses/lenses and we've been Specsavers customers without a single problem for many years. I've always found my local branch to be extremely professional and would be extremely surprised if claims like that could be backed up.

    Go to your Dr.
IF there is an issue s/he will refer you to the eye and ear hospital.
