Hi. I reckon there are some ford nuts here who can help me here. Tidying my shed, found a 70's ford engine from my capri days. It has 1600HC on the rocker cover, T9 stamped on the block, and engine number 711M6015BA .Anybody got any idea what it is originally out of, and what does the HC mean?

escort or Capri i would say...I assume the sump is towards the rear of the engine?
HC stands for high compression...711M quite sought after block I think...

thanks corktina. I did a bit of net research myself since I posted here. I never realised there were so many engines. that one seems to be the block of choice for the rally types. Some guy on freecycle looking for one, so I'll do my bit for the planet and give it away.

It's a crossflow version of Ford's Kent engine.

The 711M version is the best one that was made, and was fitted to MkIII Cortinas and MkI Ford Escort Mexicos.

The T number is only of interest if you wish to overbore the block. T numbers ranged from T0 - T20. T8-T10 and upwards are safest for overboring.
