Will a SONY LCD HDTV bought in NI or UK work on band 3 here? I know most sonys now are multi standard but not sure bout those on sale in NI and UK. Any advice? Is there much of price diff, even with the sterling conversion as their VAT is only 17.5%?

    You would need to check.
Different shops could have european imports. A UK only model might not. A pan-Eu model including UK will.

Some areas do not use bandIII and I wouldn't feed an Analogue Cable to an ordinary or HDTV set. Digital Cable does not require a BandIII analogue tuner.

Some TV's sold in the UK do have Band 3 tuners but it can be difficult to know which ones.

Its worth remembering though that in many parts of the Republic you dont actually need one as many RTE transmitters carry all four channels on UHF(although in many other places particularly in the South East, Along the Western Seaboard and parts of Cork and Monaghan only TV3 and TG4 are on UHF) Most Analouge cable systems (like the one in Dublin) also use VHF

In my experience all Sony TVs bought in the north are Irish ones. All Sony product in the north is brought up from Dublin. They are multi-standard.
