Best OCR software to use...???

    I'm doing a project where I'm scanning in old documents then using OCR on it so people can search the text.

    Currently using ABBYY FineReader Pro. 8.0 , its currently taking me about an hour a page and I'm looking (as you can imagine) to reduce it as much as I can.

    Anyone any suggestions or had any experiences with various s/w ??

    Keeping the paper flat and straight as possible unfortunately there are blotches with it picks up and the trainer option on it is not always successful, using a BookEye scanner.

    It maybe just a case of slogging through it but anything is worth a shot!!
