Going to Edinburgh for a short break with my boyfriend in a couple of weeks. We are looking for reasonably priced accommodation close to city centre.

    Any suggestions???

ALso, any other recommendations for the city would go down a treat! :)

saint christophers inn. Hostel in the old city. My faltmate just came back and he adored the hostel. Said the showers and beds were great. Breakfast was lovely and the place was very nice. Castle he said was 17 euro for a student to visit, quite expensive!!

Sorry I haven't been there so cant give any great advice but the hostel isa supposed to be very nice, and thats a good start.

Budget Backpackers Hostel in Grassmarket is the business.

I stayed in St Christopher's too, can't beat the location - right beside the airport bus terminal, on the edge of the old town & just across the bridge to Princes St. I wasn't overly impressed with the hostel itself, it was about average I thought but that was in '05 & looking @ pics of it since I think they may have renovated.

As for things to do, in addition to the castle, I would highly recommend a visit to Mary King's Close - we really enjoyed it.

We ended up in the Three Sisters the first night we were there - good spot with a variety of music though it's popular with tourists/hens/stags & is usually wedged.

Hope you've a great weekend, I loved it!!!

Stayed in St. Christophers Inn also. Loved it. If you use the two bars in the hostel then you get a discount on alcohol and food, also they have special offers and your discount is put in on top of them. Brilliant. The rooms were nice, our shower was broken though.

As for things to do, the castle is really cool, can't remember how much it was to get in tho... Camera Obscura is really cool too, they have loads of illusions and stuff and there's a whiskey museum right across the road. They're both on the Royal Mile. You could take a bus tour of the city. Also, St. Christophers Inn is RIGHT across the road from the dungeons, pricey to get in though, even with the student discount.

If you don't mind heights, in the Park beside Princes St, there's a monument that you pay three pount to walk up, there's a load of steps, so it's a bit of a trek but the view of Edinburgh from the top is amazing, as is the view from the top of Camera Obscura!

Eating in Edinburgh, there's some really nice little cafes, there's one just off Princes St thats really small only three or four seats and serves a lovely haggis.

Shopping, they have most of the same stores as here. But on the Royal Mile you will find some really cute shops, one sells really cute 60's stuff, bags and stuff like that.
