UFH and woodpellet boilers

    Hi Guys

I am thinking about installing under floor heating with a wood pellet boiler as a heat source. However I am hearing various stories about this approach....
So say it’s the way to go and others say that the wood pellet is not compatible with UFH given the high temperature of the water from the boiler.

So my question is.... does anybody have any experience with ufh and wood pellet boilers and are they compatible with UFH systems? Does anybody have this configuration in their house and if so how do you find it??
Is there any impartial web sites with info on this?

    thanks

    Hi Dave
Did you go with a company for the UFH?
Also do you have to use a buffer tank? I am thinking of using at least 100mm of kingspan in the floor. Is that enough??

We're using UFH and intend to install a wood pellet boiler in the garage.

100mm of kingspan is Ok under the floor, I have used 200mm of expanded polystyrene. The house isn't completed yet so can't say yet how effective the insulation was but more is always better than less!

We installed ufh in our new house with wood pellet boiler, 2400 sq ft. It works very well aside from initial teething problems. Insulation is the key really, after that it is a question of regulating the thermostats in all the rooms. I found that the most efficient way was to set all the stats to 18ds. permanently. That way it only comes on when the temp. goes below that in any room. Programing it to come on for a certain duration doesn't really work with ufh and wood pellet, due to the length of time underfloor takes to heat up. We have no problems with supplies at the moment, home built silo and bulk order from Balcas.:D

I have UFH and wood pellet in my own house and its working fine so far. I only have it running for 2/3 months but no issues so far. Like you say Foleyart the stats in each room is what controls it so they will call for heat as they need it. Its best to leave the boiler on all the time then and it will automatically heat the water as it needs to.

    Few questions for you Foleyart...

What temp have you set your boiler to?

I have reduced my boiler temp down to 50 degrees and am burning very little pellets as a result.

    Whats your pellet usage like?

    Chimpster.
