    Hi All,

I used to get a lot of frames in Roches - they used to do a line of black or silver frames with a mount to fit an 8x10 photo for about a tenner. Since Debenhams have bought Roches however, all they stock now is overpriced 'designer' sh*te.
Anyone know of a good place to get nice, simple frames and mounts?

    thanks

My frame supplier of choice is currently Atlantic Homecare, with occasional purchases from 1) TK Maxx 2) Next and 3) Homebase.

Agree with Atlantic Homecare. I bought 5 from them the other week, they have a good choice of frames.

habitat do birch frames, about 15 quid for an A4 one, if my memory is trustworthy.

    Oh, how I miss Ikea.

Atlantic Homecare did seem to have a good range at decent prices. Now I just have to figure out how to actually print properly...

Photoalbums are my issue. Currently TK Maxx again the more dependable. But Easons have left me down badly lately.

Good online suppliers would be good I suppose.

Elven, i went down to my local camera shop, and they have one of those interface thingies that take nearly all storage formats, and the print quality was excellent, just make sure your laptop or pc isn't lying about the colours, cause one or two of mine weren't the same, the other 20 or so were perfect. 50c a print.

I was set to make steel photo frames up myself ,when I finally got back to work it just didn't seem like a good idea anymore:(

On top of the fact that they can be bought nearly as cheaply as I can make them ,I wasn't sure whether to use plexiglas or standard glass ,standard glass with steel is very heavy.
I've seen frames on ebay that are nice and cheap ,so it's hard to make an effort.

Elevn, try Harvey Norman for printing, most of their stores are new ish so the photo print sections have great new top fuji printers they only charge 19c for a 6x4, I have found them very good, you simply use the kiosk to view and select print size and paper type it then spits out a reciept you pay and usually by the time your back to the machine their ready, if it runs late I have on several occasions been given a 10x8 of choice free for the delay.

Cheers for the info guys, I was meaning more about the actual process of preparing my photos for printing, I got a printer of my own and I'm trying to get my head round the whole profile/calibration thing...

what's up with standard frame sizes? 8X10 or A4 is all I could find. How did 8X10 get to be the standard frame size when 8X12 is a more natural size given the ratio of a 35mm film frame. Has it something to do with Medium or large formats? Whatever it is, it's a pain in the ass as getting 8X12 frames done costs about 50 quid each, whereas an 8X10 can be got in Woodies with a mount for under a tenner

8x10 is such a pain to fit too. I got the mounts out of Woodies and the Frames out Tesco, the mount goes into the Tesco frame and fits either A4 or 8x12.

did you get an 8x12 mount in Woodies? I was over there last week and could only see 8x10

Yeah got the 8x12 mount in Woodies in Coolock. Tesco do a Silver or black frame for €3.99 and the mount is €2.50 for the single one. I know its cheap for a frame but they are grand. I have bigger pictures to frame this week, 5 18x12's and they will probably run to €50 each but good quality. Framers wanted €60 for one. Try the other Woodies too.

I've used Regency Frames in the Baldoyle ind. estate, They make their own and sell to trade and the public too. You'll see their frames in loads of shops around Dublin and at a big markup from what they charge in their factory shop. They do mounts too, and if you have a decent sized order they'll custom-cut them for you too. [and no, I don't work for them]

I'm usually in there about 3 days before Peoples Photography in a mad panic...
