OK, seeing as we're getting close to the time for the big launch, i'm gonna invest in a speaker system thats compatible with my ps3 and xb360 and HDTV and possibly my laptop too. now i was lookin for suggestions, somethin like the logitech z5500 etc that would be fairly flexible and give good quality also...any help???

I thought this was the best place to post this

get the logitech z5500 .. quality speakers, even for films!! also go into maplins and buy 3 optical cables and an optical splitter. 1 optical for 360 1 for ps3 and 1 to link into the logitech base!!!

Agreed. It was almost worth buying it just to watch the poor postman have to wheel it down my drive on a handtruck. :D

I got the Z5450's delivered yesterday, hooked it up and was blown away (well my ear drums were!!!). Have my ps3 and xbox 360 hooked up via 2 optical cables and the sound is perfect. Also have the pc hooked up through the control panel and it's well worth every cent. €270 from Pixmania can't go wrong and yes it's bloody heavy.

5450 gets a nod too - more optical jacks, but in the end i had to go with loudness over expandability.

Thats great help people, thank you very much, so which is better, the z5450 or z5500? Can you also send me a link for those optical cables you're talkin about? just so i see what they're like.

i'm also considering the below speakers but not sure what they'd be like as opposed to the logitech ones?.....

Z5450 is 600 or so watts and has 2X optical cable jacks.

Z5550 is 1010 watts approx and has 1X optical cable jack.

You can work around the 1X jack it by getting a toslink splitter.

They're both good, can't really go wrong with either.

Can't offer much advice on the Sony system - as a Dolby 6.1 system compared to the Logitechs, which are 5.1, it has one more speaker. No idea if it's worth getting over the Logitechs or not. You might want to see what you can find out about it over on avforums.com

Thanks XANTHOR, i reckon the logitechs will sort me right out, toslink cable sounds like the way to go, as long as it works with the ps3 and the xbox360 thats enough for me!!

they def works with the 360 ye?

    Yep.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking.

If you mean Dolby digital on TV broadcasts, you'd need a TV which has optical output. They're few and far between i think.
