    Hi all,

Does anyone hear know anything about a new phenomenom called medical tourism?
Report I read in a travel magazine claimed Irish people are increasing heading abroad for combined medical treatment/holidays...
    Might make interesting reading....

    Thanks

Not sure this is newsworthy really or should be in this forum but...

I know that a lot of people travel abroad for Dental work and surgical augmentation (plastic/cosmetic surgery). The main reason appears to be that this is cheaper than in Ireland, however there are of course horror stories where the surgeon/dentist turned out not to be qualified to international levels etc.

I can't understand why anyone would travel somewhere to have surgery not having completely checked the place out before doing so.

Yeah I've read a few articles about it, there was a really good one in Men's health a few months ago. Some people go abroad to get cosmetic surgery done and recovery over with when they are away, so they can come back and people won't have seen them banaged up and stuff. Then others, and this is increasing a lot, are going abroad for organ transplants. The organs can be of questionable origin to say the least, and there really are an awful lot of ethical questions raised by it.
