bucket seating in the Hill

I was in Croke Park today for a conference and could see them installing the temporary seating in the Hill/Nally from the window of the Hogan "Mezzaine" or whatever it's called.

I wasn't nearly close enough to see how it was being done, and I got curious - how will it work there?

What I mean by that is, how are they secured to the stand - after all, I doubt the GAA would be too happy with them drilling a tonne of holes in the reasonably new stand just to put some very temporary seats in. It also seemed as though they'd removed the barriers (which would make sense as they'd probably be an obstruction otherwise), but I thought they'd be cemented quite strongly in there (maybe I just didn't see them and they're still there).

Anyone know any more on how they're actually fixed into place and how it'll work?

Just curious about the whole thing really... it looked weird to see a fully seated Croke Park by the way...!

Temporary seats on the Northern End for a temporary little arrangement!:)

Interesting to see about the barriers though. I hope they don't have to pay a small fortune to remove and reinstate them just because of a FIFA law.

Actually was just wondering as well, what anthem do Wales use for soccer matches? Is it GSTQ like Northern Ireland? Not stirring here, just wondering!

I think Land of My Fathers is used by the Welsh soccer and rugby teams (see here... and on a side note that was one of the points made about the British anthem being played for the English team - they're playing the British anthem when they should really play an English one, but that's another matter altogether!)

Here's a picture of the seats - a far better job than Lansdowne Road.

Very nice indeed. They don't look out of place at all.

And, apparently, Hill16 has been renamed "Northern Terrace" for the soccer internationals. :D

have they the rest of the stands named east west etc?
i remember reading when the new hill 16 was developed that it had a design feature to allow quick changeover for seating. im sure the stadium will look very well on match day/nite

They say they havent re-named anything. The FAI do have on their website:

"The Association is installing seats on the Northern terrace at Croke Park"

which undoubtedly is ignornance on their part, whether accidental or deliberate. They came up with a half-assed excuse that they were just describing its location, which would be more useful to the foreign visitors who will be seated there, but confirmed they would not be changing the Hill's name.

The FAI have referred to the other stands by their correct names.

For the bucket seats, is there not a big metal kinda walkway thing that the seats are attached too? They are for any events I've been to that have temporary seats. Plus. the last time I was in them, they wrecked my back

Thanks for the photo link Rooster - so it looks like they're bolted into the top of each concrete "step".... they certainly look well, and while I doubt the drilling would do anything to undermine the structure, I'd assume the plan on filling in the holes once they remove the seating too - or will they just leave a load of holes in the ground?

I'd say cap them rather than fill them, so they can be used again

It was good to see that they were in the sky blue and navy blue colours! :)

There were no new hole drilled in the The Hill. Lengths of steel were screwed into the existing holes which were available after the terrace barriers were removed and the seating was secured into the lengths of steel.

It's a pity they weren't in the National Colours.

Imagine, some Dubs think they own the Hill!

i think you'll find it fits the colour code of the rest of the seating

I think you'll find that whilst Dublin do not have ownership of the Hill it is Dublin only when it comes to Dublin matches so the theory of Hill 16 being Dublins is virtually true.

plug.....don't forget to visit Hill16.ie.....home of the Dubs:D
