Windows usually checks for a bootable floppy disk on start up, I know my XP does.

Your Antivirus likely has an option for Scan floppy on start and shutdown, may aswell disabled it.

Most PC's are configured in the BIOS to check for a bootable floppy before loading windows from the hard disk.

If you don't want it to check, you can always change the boot order in the Bios. When the PC boots up the screen will display which button to press to enter setup, usually ESC or F1

Open Windows Explorer & do a search for a folder called "Recent"
Make sure that you set the search to check for "Search System Folders" & "Hidden Files & Folders", you can check these options on under the "More Advanced Options" of the search feature.

When you find the folder(s) called "Recent" check it to see if there are any references at all to your floppy drive. If there are? just delete them & restart your system.

People still use Floppy disks

I do remember my virus scanner used to do a search for floppy disks on startup and shutdown, in order to make sure an infected bootable disk wasn't in the drive. Strange that this would cause Windows to fail to load though, never seen that happen. Could be another software problem, related or unrelated to the floppy.

    jor el,

What other way would you suggest to load the Raid drivers on a new build?

Create a bootable slipstreamed unattended win xp cd with the raid drivers and your win xp installation files, most new pcs dont come with a floppy drive.

nlite is a handy tool for doing that too.

My comment was said in jest though since floppys are almost archaic at this stage.

I knew that joe el ;)

But I actually had to use one recently in order to update the BIOS in an older PC. Is there any other solution for BIOS updating?

This is another helpful source for creating your own unattended disc.

alphasolutions link does cover the "Raid drivers" though.
