STI Clinic

    Hello everyone,

My girlfriend, whom I've only just become exclusive with. Has just found out that someone she was with recently has been diagnosed with Chlamydia.

My main question is that i don't particularly want her to wait the 2 or so months it takes to get results back from an STI Test, as no one should have to go through that. So, are there any private clinics that offer a quicker response in terms of results? And if so where are they and what prices are we looking at?

Also, in case you're wondering, no we haven't slept together, she told me before we did anything, which I'm thankful for of course. But i'm also curious as to what the transferal rates are? As in, if you have unprotected sex with someone with Chlamydia, what are the chances of you getting infected? And also, what are the chances when oral sex is concerned?

    Many thanks for your time.

Sorry, should have mentioned that we are indeed in Dublin.

And, she said it takes close to two months, as she's had tests before... Although she did say you get some results quicker than others? Maybe she forgot that you get chlamydia results faster?

I don't know to be honest, but if it only takes a couple of weeks then all the better. It would be nice if someone could confirm this though.

    Thanks,
    :)

go to your doctor and get a referral, also lok at the sticky above, it has a list of clinics, james's has a walk in one
Best to get a full screen done.

    However,
    here is the IFPA website
    http://www.ifpa.ie/services/charge.html

BTW i think james's is free

Any of the well woman clinics in dublin do it and I think the wait is only two weeks for sti results - your girlfriend might be talking about 2 months to get back a smear test but the sti tests are alot faster.

smear tests are taking up to five months to come back so i wouldn't be surprised if it is taking 2 months to get sti results back.

Not sure about public but if you get tested privately its between two and at tops three weeks for results for sti's.

Yeah the smear is around five months now but it was about three months last year (2 months if a rush was put on the results)!!! Crazy but that's another thread!!!

There is one in Ranelagh. Derek Freedman is the guy. Top guy in the field too. Results in ten days. Costs €160.00

Chlamydia results come back fairly quick so I'm surprised your girlfriend is saying 2months.

I'd recommend the wellwomanclinic in Dublin
    (QUOTE from http://www.wellwomancentre.ie/medical.html)
    Infection Testing
    €150.00
    Student Infection Testing
    €135.00
(This is a full screen for STIs and includes bloods, swabs and any necessary referrals, prescriptions or follow-up. Men’s STI screening is available in Well Woman’s Pembroke Road clinic)

I second the recommendation for the well woman centre. Test results take 2 weeks usually. Smear tests being the only exception.

Is there no where cheaper than that in dublin.Does it not seem about over priced?

I don't think it's overpriced at all. But then again maybe I've been in Dublin too long. 150 is about equiv to maybe 2-3 nights out in Dublin and when it's your health you're talking about then it's worth it.

You can go to a free clinic but these have waiting lists. I believe you might be able to get bumped up the list in these clinic's if you believe yourself to have symptoms of an STD. It might be worth the Op's girlfriend's while to ring them up and see if they could fit her in earlier.

If the well woman clinic is not an affordable option - there is the free sti clinic up in James's but haven't heard of anyone going to it. And you don't have to get the full screening in the well woman - you can just get the test for Chlamydia which is €12 + doctors fees (i think - check the website). But I think if you know you've been in contact with one sti I think you should get tested for all as its an investment in your health and well worth sacrificing a few nights out on the town.

So your sexual health is cheap to you? Sheesh.

Which would you rather? A near immediate appointment at a private clinic for less than the price of a night out, or be on a waiting list of up to three months in James'?

Lets see. Ten days of wondering or up to three months of burning everytime you take a píss. Hmmn. Clever.

An ex of mine went in to get the test done and in 30 mins they told her she was clear. This was in In St.James's hos.

She had to wait a few hours though to be seen. Hope it helps.

I went to my local gp recently and asked for a full sti test, all that happened was I had to do take a urine sample and blood work...
Am I right in saying this is not a full test....?
    I am male btw

Believe that when testing males they take a swab in the tip of the penis...but maybe the men can confirm that for you...

    'Hi guys,

Thanks for the responses, we gave Dr Freedman a call in Ranelagh as a few people mentioned him in the STI sticky. Haven't made an appointment as yet due to cash flow but will do soon.

    Thanks for the help:)'

When you get your results it should have a list of everything you were tested for and the result so you'll know what you were tested for. So if it doesn't have all of them on the sheet you should ring you doctor.

what's all this 3 months wait i hear for james hosp.? all you have to do is go there early on a friday morning and you can get tested for everything. results within a few weeks. if you're clear, they don't even call you.
Make sure to get there early (maybe 7.30) and be prepared to wait 2-3 hours. At 8am they put out a box of numbered cards (45 i think) and everyone grabs one. no problems. it's just everyone sitting there looks guilty for some reason...
this is preferable to paying 150euro methinks...
