I spend alot of my online time on my laptop using the college wireless network. A fair amount of this time was on Tribeca (rip). After the switch to ipoker, i havent been able to log on the GJP or PPP from the laptop, I can log on at home and have been playing fro mhome without a problem.
But when the poker cliet goes as far as the log in screen i get an error message.

    along the lines of
"cannot contact gaming server, please check internet conection.
    contine in offline mode."

there is not a problem with my conection as I am happily browsing boards at the same time. my firewal is switched off.

anybody get this message or have problems from a wireless server,

p.s. got a friend to download GJP and he got same message

its pretty annoying, tribeca worked fine, not a bother.
ipoker and wireless mustn't mix well

The problem is not with the wireless connection, at least it works fine for me wirelessly on my home network, i think it has to do with the internet administrative set up in your college that allowed tribeca through but not ipoker - thing it has something to do with the ports they respectively used, anyways this kinda thing has been posted about already, as far as I gathered there's no way around it yet unfortunately for you

I sent in an email to the network admin but no word back as yet, I'm heading in today to go ask about it again, does anyone happen to know what ports gjp uses?

sounds to me to be a firewall issue to be honest, I think the new client uses a few different ports to the old 1

ok, so I was talking to the computer services dept. they said they were waiting on a phone call back from ppp about what ports to open up.

Will gjp use the same ports?

UCD by any chance? I'd be very curious about any poker software that works on the wireless there.

Yeah me too, sure I barely do any work as it is.

The same thing comes up for me in ucd, tried with full tilt and betonbet (prima skin).

you should be able to route traffic from different ports to open ports using something like netcat.

    try this.

open a dos prompt on your system (click start, then run, enter cmd and press ok)
in the black window type netstat, this will bring up a few lines of information.
    open PPP and login
go back to the dos window and enter netstat again, there shuold be a few more entries now, the ones near the bottom will be the newest ones (i.e. PPP), take a noke of the numbers after the : and pass them onto the IT departmet.

If that doesn't work for you there are a few other tools you can do that'll capture the ports that's needed.

Any update on this as to whether computing services are opening the ports?

If it is UCD dont bother, I had to get broadband installed just to access my work VPN as they wouldnt open a single port for me (I am doing a masters and on sabbatical from work).

There is a way around it using Hopster and SocksCap, but for decent performance it will cost you.

i could probably get the IT department to open the port forme in DIT, but i not sure if I want to, thesis is drawing to a closes and distractions are good,
    boards is enough
