    Hi,
I have sky at the moment and was looking to upgrade to SKY+.
I'm not sure if I want to pay the €150 for this and was wondering if it is possible to buy a SKY+ box off ebay and then get "turned on" to SKY+ by just ringing them up?
Or will I have to pay the fee anyway?

It's not just a case of swapping the ordinary Skybox with the Sky+ box. You'll need a Quad LNB (some Sky+ boxes on eBay come with them, some without so worth noting), and a second satellite feed down to the "sky room"

Sky+ needs 2 feeds so it may record one thing while you watch another, etc.

Once you've your LNB installed and your 2 feeds going into your Sky+ box, just insert your existing viewing card, and ring Sky to re-pair your card to the new box and activate the "plus" features.

Sky wont wonder where you got the box. they can be bought freely in shops and online

you will only be charged extra if you want to enable the recording features (€15/m). that charge is waived though if you subscribe to at least 2 premium channels

Guys, I assume if you don't buy from Sky u won't need a phone line connecting ?

I have a special offer letter from Sky valid until July to get a Sky+ box for €114... probably need a phone line then though...so the e-bay route sounds a good option....

this phone crack is a joke.. most people are honest subscribers who don't bring their box up to the local pub!!

    €114?

Does that offer include installation (normally €75)
Is it valid for existing customers?

How do you actually know if you're looking at a second hand box what size hard disk is in it? Is there an option somewhere in the menus that tells you?

If you're referring to second hand on eBay, the sellers usually mention the size of the HDD. Otherwise, just Google the model number for specs.
