A couple of you might be familiar with this little story from a thread I posted last October/ November.

I traded in my 2 year old bike against a new model in a particular Longmile Road dealer (you know the one) last October. I wasn't happy with the new bike and I missed my old one so I brought the new one back and got my old one again, happy days you might think.

That was about 4 months ago and here's where it gets interesting. My tax expired recently and I noticed that I didn't get my PIN number from the tax office with a renewal notice.
When I called the Tax Office in Shannon this morning they told me that I am not the owner of the bike and that the owner is in fact the shop that sold it to me. So I have been driving a bike for the past 4 months that doesn't belong to me !!!

When I spoke to the shop I couldn't get a straight answer as to why I was told that the bike paper work was sorted out when I took it back in November. I was originally told that the ownership wasn't changed to them when it went back to the shop so there wouldn't be anything to change.
Now the bike has an extra owner on it and it doesn't technically belong to me.

I spoke to CN this morning about my insurance to make sure its actually valid as I don't think I'm covered on a bike that isn't registered to me. I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do about getting the bike changed back to me and if I am covered by my insurance ??.

    Thanks
    K

afaik you need to get a change of ownership from shannon and fill it out. You will need "them" to sign it to say they are transferring the ownership.

Should be straight forward after that

Problem is I need to drive home this evening on it :(

Carole Nash still haven't called me back about my insurance being valid or not.

In a very similar situation to KTRIC.

Without going into the specifics of my case, I sent a registered letter to the dealership giving them 4 weeks to register my bike in my name and have the documentation posted to me.
After that, I was going to the small claims court where it costs €9 for a consumer to file a claim against a business, provided the value of the item is under €2,000.

This was two weeks ago so I won't know if I've to follow through for another two weeks.

Seemed the best way for me to proceed but maybe other posters will have better advice

THe Onus is on the shop to sign it over to you!! You insurance is valid afaik. IF you bought a car/bike in a garage and it wasn't in your name but the paperwork was signed and sent off then you can still get insurace and be validly insured!!

I would think regardless of ownership that you should be covered, same as getting a loaner for the day and transferring insurance.
