This is my three year old girl, I love the close focus on this 24-70EX Sigma really gives an interesting look to portraits. Wot do you all think?

Yeah, thats a nice shot. Maybe a little blown out (unless you intentionally did that in post, the saturation on the eyes suggests that you did). Wide angle lenses can be great for portraits if they're used properly, as you've done here. If you just stick them in someones face and take the shot you can end up with ... interesting ... results. I've got a pile of portraits of people taken with a 24mm that they refuse to allow me to put up after seeing the prints ...

Kute kiddo! A little more detail in her skin wouldn't hurt, fab eyes. Great dof.

P.S. She will break your heart in years to come. (I have an 11yr old daughter who used to be three, once).

very nice. I find that whatever that thing is that's behind her head is a little distracting though. Other than that, no complaints.

Thanks all, her face was covered in chocolate this was the best I could do cleaning her up, I like the blown out skin tones, I think it works for this image, oh yeh that thing behind her is a BBQ, this was just a snap shot so I did'nt worry about anything other than snapping her as she ran by.

Fabulous stuff, excellent use of the wide lens and I love the bright eyes and luminous skin. Placement of the hands and feet works really well too.

You could easily burn in those lines behind her head a bit, just to make them less obvious.

Do you have a flickr account? Let's see the rest of your pics!

    Very nice indeed.
Any time i ever used a WA for portraits I just ended up with
    massive distorted heads. :o

The eyes really jump off the screen and kept my attention
for much longer than the average photograph.

    Donde esta flickr ?

Here's the code for linking your pictures with the word 'flickr' (take out the * to actually get it to show):

    [*URL="http://www.flickr.com/photos/georgeys_photos/"]flickr[/URL]

Tks elven, I however am still lost, I'm a git
-na when it comes to this sort of thing, do I post the link without the* or how do I set it up? sorry for my uselessness......Philip

If you just copy paste Elven's code, taking the asterisk out it should work fine :)

Your photos are beautiful :) I love your kiddies' eyes - did you photoshop the girls' ones? So blue!

I haven't attempted anything serious with mine yet - getting them to stay still long enough is almost impossible  I love the effect the wide angle gives though - gotta try that!

Tks sineadw, there eyes are really really blue, I did in those two particular photo's on the deck ,select and dodge a bit, saturate a small bit (no hue adjustmant) and sharpen a bit, after that from raw I just done a levels and curves( there was some cloning also dirty faces!)flickr

saw almost the exact same image on page 92, Digital camera magazine.

    coincidence or inspiration?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Philip, did you steal someone else's child in order to copy the picture in Digital Camera magazine? Shocking!

Ruggiebear this is a complete coincidence, on the subject of mags, do you find that they all (other than AP) churn out the same subjects and pic's in different productions throughout the year? The same tutorials etc

yep. you are dead right wrt the magazines. tbh, i just buy mine to look at the pictures and then try to replicate them (In my case really badly :o:) ).

When i saw your pic (gorgeous btw)I was wondering if you did the same. oh and it is a nicer picture than the one published.

I personally like the dirty faces thing, but that might be because mine are never without.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 145 ✭✭georgey

I agree most of my albums are full of dirty faces, its easy to capture the dirt my kids, like most, are magnets for it!

Beautiful shot (and kid) Georgy. My face cracked into a big smile as I opened the link, and I've just realised I'm still smiling as I type ... (wife just asked what's so funny). Well done, and thanks.

P.S. The wife is now walking around with a smile :)
